You blink, dumbfounded. Then blink again. At first, you don't know what the heck you're looking at--you expected to find the familiar eagle, but instead you find yourself looking at...a white wall, inches from your face.
Seeing something pop inches in front of you, out in the wilderness should have scared you senseless and sent you running, but the sheer strangeness of this kept you rooted to your spot, staring forward with wide eyes and a cocked eyebrow (which was a rather silly expression--good thing you were alone out there, or people would be laughing at you.) Curiosity overcomes self-preservation, and you raise a hand to touch the strange barrier...
It's made of...feathers? Very large feathers, bigger than any bird has business having. And, somehow, familiar...
A loud, avain Caw! resounds in your ears, and your instincts belatedly kick in as you scramble backwards, only to trip on a rock and fall heavily on your rear. You let out an "Oof!" of pain and look upwards, remembering the sudden bird-cry--
And find the ever-familiar female eagle standing over you, wings spread, head cocked to one side curiously...and twelve feet tall, covering you in her shadow. Her head was as big as your whole chest, maybe bigger. Her wingspan was easily wider than you were tall! And she was looking right at you.
Now, you had always liked this particular eagle; how she always seemed to turn up whenever you went hiking, but you also knew that eagles were called "birds of prey" for a reason. At at that size (how DID she get so darn BIG, anyway?!) she could easily chomp you like a mouse! And so, with a high yelp, you scramble to your feet and run like heck away from the over-sized bird.
After a few steps you realize that may just encourage you to come after her, but that revelation doesn't make you slow down. Neither do the loud wingbeats behind you, and the outsized avian shadow on the ground.
Making sure there wasn't anything you could trip over on the path, you risk a look back and find the giant eagle soaring through the air, following you!
"Oh,come on!! I just want to go on a hike without getting eaten! Is that so much to ask for?!" You call out in half-terrified frustration.
The eagle angles downward and dives toward you like a feathered Stuka. Even as you keep running full-tilt away from her, you can't help but watch as she gets ever closer, until she...  | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
