“I... I don’t know about this, Piper...”
Piper hadn’t known Dakota very long. She was this lanky little thing fresh from somewhere the fuck ever in Texas, still all mopey from the move. Piper had met her when she was hiding out from the Kretcho twins in what just so happened to be Dakota’s back yard. They’d been pretty tight ever since. Hanging out at D’s, getting her integrated to the Port, showing her around. Piper had probably known her for less than three months.
Which was why, admittedly, this felt really weird.
“Please don’t say that.” Piper winced as she cleaned up her room a little--moreso out of anxiety than out of any real sense of cleanliness--”That’s literally like the worst thing you could say right now.”
“Well I mean it’s True...” Dakota shrugged slightly, “I-I mean, no judgement or anything girl it’s just... you know, not how I imagined spending my Friday night.”
It had taken some doing, but Piper had managed to get her friend to come this far into the game. It had taken some bribery (a whole round of donuts and a malt at D’s. Dakota’s allegiance did not come cheap!) but Dakota had come around. Once Piper explained the situation, what she was doing and why she was doing it, and threw in a bullshit line about it being “empowering” for her to have men to py her to do stuff with her own body, Dakota just sort’ve fell into place.
Or at least, that’s what Piper had thought that afternoon.
“Dee, listen, I...” Piper bit at her bottom lip, “I need this, okay? My Mom needs this. My sister needs this... hell, even Parker needs this.”
“Piper, you don’t have to be a cam girl...” Dakota shifted in her stance, “I-I mean, you could get a job... I hear that Abida’s looking for someone to dust her shop. A-And there’s always Big Burger--”
“Dee, I don’t know what you were told growing up in your precious little nuclear family bubbe, but those jobs don’t pay well.” Piper frowned spectacularly, “You think I want to do this? My Mom needs money, my sister’s incapable of holding down her drinks, let alone a job, and we’ve got another mouth to feed on the way! I need...”
Piper paused, taking deep breaths. Her full bottom lip quivered ever so slightly. Her brown eyes were misty, and her tone uncertain.
Dakota took a step forward in consolation, but wisely retreated.
“I just need to help Mom stay on her feet til the baby comes, okay?” Piper said solidly, more resolutely, “Then we’ll... work something else out. Okay?”
“O-Okay...” Dakota said with a frown, plopping down on Piper’s old squeaky mattress, “I just... you know, wish there was something I could do to help...”
At this, Piper grabbed her video camera. It was one of the newer models, purchased from one of the aforementioned Kretcho twins for, like, sixty bucks last Summer. Was it hot? Probably. But that didn’t mean it didn’t have a high quality camera, perfect for taking sexy pictures and recording risque videos of herself with. With that and Parker’s old webcam hooked up to her laptop, Piper had set herself up a nice little studio to get things rolling...
“You can.” Piper said, tossing Dakota her camera, “Just hold the camera.”
Dakota looked at the device with some hesitation. She turned it in her hands, rolling it to either side as if she were looking for something.
“Just... hold the camera?” Dakota repeated uneasily
“Just hold the camera.” Piper said with an affirmative nod, “And try not to make too many noises.”
