Lauren and Dani sadly had to part their ways after school because of one major thing they shared, their parents.
Both their parents were strict and both expected their two Catholic daughters to fall in love with a man and marry him.
One day Lauren was close to telling her mom, probably the more forgiving out of the two, but then she made a comment that scarred Lauren forever.
Lauren was practicing for her drivers test downtown when there was a lesbian couple walking hand in hand down the street.
"Those sinning dykes are going to Hell." Lauren choked on her own spit hearing those words come out of her mom's mouth.
Lauren never argued or agreed with her and ever since that incident when her mom commented something bad about being gay Lauren tensed up scared that she had somehow figured out her secret.
"Hey sweetheart. How are you?" Lauren was snapped out of her flashback by her smiling mom at the door.
She faked a smile and it was not as convincing as her normal 'I'm okay' smiles.
"Sweetie what's wrong." Lauren felt a hand wrap around her wrist knowing she was in for a long talk about how she is so great and in time a boyfriend will come.
That two syllable word made her shudder, boyfriend.
Dani though had it worse because she was the daughter of a very traditional pastor.
In short, break one of the Ten Commandments she got grounded for a week.
"How are you Dan? Talk to that boy of yours?" Dani sighed actually having lied about having a boyfriend, breaking one of those rules.
Her parents kept setting her up with church boys, which are great kids, but clearly not her type.
"Yeah." She tried to feign enthusiasm, it working against her parents because they wanted to believe it.
"We need to meet this boy." Her father says and her throat dries up. "Can he come over for dinner Friday night?" Dani doesn't answer her tongue caught in her throat.
