This choice: After Eddard's execution, but before the Red Wedding  •  Go Back...
Chapter #4

Robb lives; Ned does not

    by: Stendier Author IconMail Icon
Recently, Lord Eddard Stark was executed - some say "murdered" - by the order of King Joffrey Baratheon. Lord Eddard's eldest son, Robb, and his vassals had already been waging a war against the Westerlords, who were sworn to Joffrey due to his Lannister blood. The realm is effectively at war with itself now.

You do not particularly care which side wins. After all, these political matters are none of your concern. Even so, since Robb Stark and most of his bannermen are currently south of the Neck, there are a lot fewer people currently in the North as a result.

That implies that the North may have a lot of opportunities for work. It also implies that many of the women in the North are in need of male companionship. Thus, you have two good reasons for heading up that way. And so you do.

You ride Aerion northward for a couple weeks, never straying too far from the Kingsroad. Before long, you arrive at the swamps of the Neck. It takes you and your horse another week to traverse through them. Once you emerge, you find yourself at Moat Cailin. As of now, you are officially in the North. The sudden decrease in temperature is proof of that.

You have a few choices on where to go from here.

You could make for the Wolfswood in the northwest region. Ironwood trees are in abundance in that part of the North, and there are plenty of families who would give you related opportunities for work. Those include House Glover, House Forrester, House Whitehill, and House Glenmore.

Another option is to go to the Wall. Although the Night's Watch is composed solely of men, you might be able to head north and try to ingratiate yourself with the wildlings. You have no quarrel with the Free Folk; they may be willing to accept one such as you.

The possibilities do not end there. There are plenty of other places in the North you can visit, such as Hornwood, Barrowton, Bear Island, White Harbor... or even Winterfell, the ancestral home of House Stark.

Where do you ultimately choose to go?

You have the following choices:

1. The Wolfswood

2. The Wall

3. Someplace else

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
