Chapter #5

To The Fair Maidens' Rescue

    by: Stendier Author IconMail Icon
When you ride near the bazaars, you notice three men seem to be bothering a pair of women. The men look like mercenaries, and they seem to be at least slightly drunk.

As for the women, both of them appear to be in their 20s or 30s. One of them has long black hair and tanned skin, and she is clad in a flowing red dress which covers her entire body, save for her head. The other woman is wearing a bare-sleeved dress with a multicolored hexagonal motif. She is also wearing a wooden lacquered mask which conceals her face completely. You cannot even tell the color of her hair.

Interestingly, neither of them seems intimidated by the mercenaries. However, they DO seem annoyed by the mercenaries' advances. Their attempts to convey their disinterest do not appear to be successful.

You know this does not really concern you. However, despite having a rough upbringing, you are not the type of person to turn a blind eye to people in distress. Especially when the victims in question are attractive young women. Being chivalrous has worked to your advantage many times before...

You climb off Aerion, draw your sword, and cautiously approach the mercenaries from behind. Fortunately, they are drunker than you thought; they do not even notice you. You strike each one on the back of his head with the hilt of your sword. Within ten seconds, they are all on the ground.

After taking a moment to verify that they are unconscious, you turn your attention to the women. While they both give off a neutral expression, they seem gladdened by your intervention. Out of concern, you ask them "Are you alright, my ladies?"

"I am quite well," says the woman in red. She is rather stoic.

"As am I," says the masked woman. Also quite stoic. "Thank you for your mediation, ser."

"Yes, thank you very much," the woman in red remarks, "There are not many men who would do what you did."

"And for a complete stranger, nonetheless," the masked woman adds in.

"It is no bother," you assure them, gesturing to the unconscious mercenaries, "These men were obviously disturbing you, and they were unwilling to listen to reason. I just used what force I deemed necessary to get them to let you alone."

The woman in red lightly smiles. The masked woman is probably smiling, too, but since her mouth is hidden, you have no way of knowing that.

"Might we know your name?" the woman in red requests.

"Brynden," you inform them. You walk over to Aerion, take him by the halter, and declare "This is my faithful horse, Aerion. We arrived in Qarth just today. We came here from the Seven Kingdoms."

"Yes, you have the look of a Westerosi," the masked woman remarks. She then steps forward and proclaims "Now that you have indulged us with your name, allow us to do the same. I am Quaithe of the Shadow."

"And I am Kinvara, servant of R'hllor, the Lord of Light," the woman in red states.

You are intrigued. These women turn out to be a shadowbinder and a red priestess, and you are on good terms with both of them.

Just then, one of the mercenaries starts to stir. You warily glimpse down at him, and you declare "We should probably get out of here before they regain consciousness."

The women have no objection. The three of you proceed to leave the area. Kinvara and Quaithe walk on either side of you, and you lead Aerion by the halter. You would like to talk to this woman, but first, you need to focus on putting some distance between yourself and those mercenaries.

Where do you go?

You have the following choices:

1. The marketplace

*Noteb*
2. A tavern

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
