“Mom, come quick! Becky’s acting all weird.” Kimberly said, still holding the stone.

“Becky?” Bill said under his breath. ‘What happened? Why did she just call me Becky? Does she not remember me as Bill?’

“What’s wrong?” Their mother, Martha, asked as she came into the room.

“Becky was playing with this rock and when I took it from her, she said something about ‘changing’ her into a little girl.” Kimberly explained.

“She’s probably playing a pretend game.” Martha knelt down to Bill’s new eye level, and shifted to a more high pitched tone that adults use when talking to small children. “If Kimmy changed you into a little girl, then what we’re you before, Becky?”

“A…teenager.” Bill said hesitantly.

“Oh. You must have been a really pretty teenager.” Martha grinned, brushing Bill’s now longer hair with her hand. “But I think it’s a little too soon for you to be a teenager Becky. Don’t grow up too fast on me.” She stood back up and switched back to a more normal voice as she turned back to Kimberly. “Now what’s this about playing with a rock?”

“Here.” Kimberly held up the rock. “She was playing with this pretty rock when I came in.”

“And you took it from her?” Martha asked.

“Well…it was pretty.” Kimberly lowered her head in guilt.

“Give the rock back to your sister Kimmy. You’re the older sister. You need to set a better example.”
Martha ordered.

“Alright.” Kimberly sighed, then held the rock you to Bill. “Here Becky. Sorry for taking it from you.”

Bill silently took the rock and stared in surprise. He didn’t expect her to give in so easily and even apologize. Normally, she’d resist a bit more. And she normally wouldn’t apologize either.

“Good. Now, that that’s settled, play with Becky for a bit. I need to do something real quick.”

“Okay mom.” Kimberly obeyed.

Meanwhile, Bill’s mind was in deep thought. He was so confused as to why both of them were acting as if everything was normal. Their mother, he could understand, but Kimberly was the one who made the wish that turned him into a little girl, so she should be aware of the changes. For that matter, why was HE aware of the changes instead of Kimberly? He could only guess that it had somehow imprinted on him when he touched it earlier. Maybe since he was the first person to touch it, he is now the only one aware of the changes made by wishes, even though other people can make wishes too.

“Becky!”

“Huh?” Bill turned to Kimberly, who looked very annoyed.

“Why were you ignoring me? I asked you what you wanted to do?”

“What I want to do?”

“Ugh. You can be so spacey sometimes. Must be because you’re still so young.” Kimberly grabbed Bill’s hand, which was still holding the stone, and her fingers touched the stone, causing it to glow. “You’re such a kid! It’s hard being an older sister, always having to set an example for you. Sometimes I wish that…”
