Chapter #7

Heading In

The bridge extended a considerable distance. Much longer than first thought of. They had to stop and rest at some point. Fortunately, nothing of note happened through it all. No strange figures appeared or anything of the sort. Soon, they reached the other side. This next island in the sky was quite big, and right off the bat they were greeted by a big stone building. Though in much better condition than the ruins of the previous island, it still looked a bit worn down. Some pieces already broken off and resting on the ground nearby. Cracks all over the walls. Despite so, the building still looked structurally sound, not in danger of collapsing any time soon. It lied not far from the end of the bridge. A few bushes were scattered outside, and a thick forest extended to the sides, obscuring just how big the building was, though it was certainly not tall. Likely just housing one floor overall. The four stopped before its entrance.

“Well, what do we have here…” Azura murmured.

She took a step closer to it, looked all over it, then glanced back at the others.

“We should venture inside.”

“Huh!? Would that be a good idea?” Felicia said, uneasy.

“I can sense another Dragon Vein inside,” the songstress replied.

“Very well, let’s get inside then,” Corrin said.

So they did. Inside they were greeted by a big hall. Lit torches on the walls gave it plenty of light. The inside looked in worse shape than the outside, with pieces of rubble on the floor. On a side wall was a doorway, half-blocked by debris.

“This place has seen better days,” Azura commented.

“Considering things, it must be long abandoned,” Corrin said.

“But then why are these torches still lit?” Felicia asked, nervous.

“Must be some magic at work…” Corrin commented.

“I agree,” Azura nodded.

“So then… what now?” Felicia asked. “The only way forward is blocked.”

“It’s not completely blocked,” Corrin pointed out. “Maybe we could clear it up.”

“There’s still the Dragon Vein,” Azura reminded them.

“We can check on both,” Corrin said. “Let’s start with the doorway.”

With that, he began to walk over.

“Let me help you, Lord Corrin!” Felicia called out as she followed after him.

Azura watched them go, before turning back to the far wall.

I think I shall check that Dragon Vein right away, she thought. Although…

The previous Dragon Vein’s effects were still fresh on her mind, but the songstress knew that it was inevitable they’d need to activate more of them in order to proceed on this mysterious world.

Besides, this one might not do the same, she reasoned.

Thus, the songstress walked further into the hall, to where she sensed the Dragon Vein was. It ended up located by the far wall, within an area of the floor marked in a different color from the rest, circular in shape. It was clear it indicated the vein’s location, though the area covered was much larger. Enough for a ring of people to stand around it. Azura then walked over onto the marked area until she was atop where the Dragon Vein was. Closing her eyes, she began to concentrate.
