While reading some poetry in the classroom your eyes blur a bit as you go. You have to rub your eyes and blink a few times to regain your focus. "Late night last night?" Monika asks you, sitting at the desk in front of you, she turned her chair backward toward you. Hands under her chin with a cup of tea in front of her. "I hope you weren't struggling to write a poem for today, they're supposed to be fun you know." You shake it off.
"Oh no, I think I was just getting lost in the text that I was starting to space." Monika smiles at you.
"Well if you need me to tap you on the head every time you drift off let me know, I finished reading so I just need to sit here today." She sips her tea in front of you, not wanting a flick in the forehead by the club president you look back at your book.
The letters on the page scramble on your head for a bit, your vision feels as if it split and you close the book as your eyes feel a slight singe. Monika looks at you worried "Hey, are you okay? You look panicked, do you need some tea to help calm down?"
"Yea, that might actually be a good idea." Monika stands up in front of you.
"Now stay there while I go pour you a cup. Don't have anymore wild reactions while I'm gone you hear." She taps you on the nose and walks to the other end of the classroom. You take a moment to look at the other girls in the room, Yuri is at a nearby table reading, and resting on her shoulder is a happily drooling Sayori, clearly more tired than you were. Back in the corner by the closet, Natsuki is returning a book. Being too short she has to drag a chair back there with her. You feel a little bad seeing her stretching up and stand to go help her.
While focusing on her you see her just short of reaching the spot for her book and wish she could be just a bit taller to reach it. As you wish that your vision around her splits like when you read the book nearly knocking you over. Natsuki at the same time smacks her head into the ceiling, and with high pitched scream accidentally knocks into the shelf pouring those books down onto her as she falls back off the chair on her bottom.
Sayori woke up from the crashes and she and Yuri rush over to the fallen girl. Monika returns to you handing you a cup asking what happened. Natsuki stands up rubbing her body, sore from the fall and all the books that landed on her. Sayori gasps and it takes you and Natsuki a moment to realize why. The Sayori and Natsuki are looking eye to eye with each other. With Sayori's extra energy she immediately tries to compare heights and Natsuki just looks stunned with her getting so close.
"No way!" Sayori screams holding her two hands she used to compare heights to watch other "Natsuki grew past me! She made me the tiny one now!" Sayori goes from panic to smiles as she hugs into Natsuki saying "Yay, now there's more Natsuki to love!!" Natsuki on the other hand tries pushing her off and Yuri walks over to you and Monika.
"Did you two see that? She really did grow." Yuri looks worried, you feel confused, and Monika just sips the tea she left on your desk earlier.
"Strange, she had a growth spurt just when she needed an extra inch. It's like someone was watching and decided to be a helper." Monika looks over at you with a sly smile that you didn't notice. But her words did ring in your head, that flash of text and your vision disorienting.
Come to think of it, when your vision split, the way it did made it seem to stretch Natsuki's image in your eyes... maybe you did help. Not knowing how or if you really did, is there some way to test it again? And how would be the best way if possible?
