Chapter #3

Reginald Lockheed

    by: Unknown
... her employer, Dr Reginald Lockheed, standing stiffly, wearing an annoyed scowl and tapping one of his leather shoes on the floor impatiently. He sarcastically looked at a pocket watch that was connected to his khaki corduroy suit jacket. "Three minutes past nine, oh dear," he tutted.

"This is not a very good start for the day is it, Miss Gabrielle, hmm?" Gabrielle felt her face getting flushed, growing more red from both embarrassment and anger- she DESPISED how the doctor talked down to her. 'Calm down Gabby,' she told herself, 'Just suck it up and do your job, just like every other day.'

She gritted her teeth momentarily then replaced it with a fake smile. "Sorry Sir, it won't happen again." Dr Lockheed grinned in response, obviously relishing the feeling of power that her apology gave him. "All is forgiven my dear, just please do try to do the absolute bare minimum and arrive for your shift on time- tardiness doesn't look good for a woman in your position."

'...And being a massive ASSHOLE doesn't look good for a man in YOUR position.' Before Gabby could say something she would immediately regret she smiled one last time and went to her desk, angrily cursing under her breath.

Being the secretary for a self-centred egomaniac like Lockheed was nearly unbearable but, for all his faults, the guy was filthy rich and spoiled his employees with EXTREMELY large salaries. 'Probably trying to buy our silence for all the technological crap that goes on around here,' she thought. It was no secret that many top-secret projects were in production at Transforming Genetics, projects that some would happily buy for huge sums of cash.

Gabrielle sauntered through the large expanse of TGHQ, eventually walking up to her pathetic excuse of a workspace that was directly beside the men's bathroom. It consisted of an ancient plywood desk and chair set that were visibly caving in on themselves with stacks of unfinished paperwork that had nonchalantly been dumped on top, a small name plate holder that said 'SECRETARY OF DR LOCKHEED' in big bold letters and a dusty desktop computer that looked like it hadn't been used since 1995. 'Great, my home away from home,' she sighed sarcastically.

Gabby walked round to sit down on her rotted chair, the seat wheezing as she planted her left butt onto it. She started to sift through the files but after a few minutes the creaking intensified, growing louder until it noisily collapsed underneath her. As she fell she reached for something to hold onto, pulling the mounds of paper unto the ground with her.

'Awesome...' The loud crash had alerted many other employees, many poking their heads out of their offices to look at her and some were even murmuring and giggling. Gabby's face went flushed again just as her friend Diann ran up to her and offered a hand. "You OK, Gabby?" Gabby slowly rose, slapping Diana's hand away and responding, "I'm fine, thank you very much." She bent down on all fours, beginning the tedious task to collect the fallen documents.

Gabby instantly felt remorse as her best friend's face showed real anguish at her outburst. "Sorry, I didn't mean to snap..." Diann cut her off with an open palm gesture. She turned to the onlookers that were watching the scene progress. "And you nosy bastards better get back to work, right NOW, or I might get angry and, God forgive me, shove a motherfreakin STAPLER up each and everyone of your ASSES."

The people scurried back into their rooms like rats hiding from exterminators. Gabby looked back at her friend that had started to help collect the papers alongside herself. After a few minutes Gabby paused, quietly saying, "Um... thanks,Dee..." Diann turned towards her and genuinely grinned at her. "No problem, Gab. That's what friends..."

"BUT," Gabby interrupted, "I could have handled this myself. You don't need to go out of your way to protect me- I'm not the same person I used to be, I don't need a guardian angel on my back 24/7. I'm gonna handle this NOW by MYSELF."

Diann solemnly nodded as Gabby dropped down her portion of the collected papers. She could feel her face getting hotter as she stormed up to Dr Lockheed's office. 'I'm gonna give that pigheaded cockface a piece of my mind...' she thought as she approached the door. Slamming the door open she yelled, "NOW LISTEN HERE..."

You have the following choices:

1. ...to a shocked Dr Lockheed

*Noteb*
2. ...to a random stranger

3. ...to no one. Room's empty.

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
