Chapter #5Kevin, Ben and Gwen's Growth Spurts! by: CountDugula Gene Therapist Dr.Tyler Stross let out a sigh of relief and exhaustion as he sent out three of the defective gene pods utilized in his research to enhance the human body, it was meant to make them stronger, faster, and overall better than the average person, making an all new benchmark in the staple of human evolution, there was no way but up after hitting the natural brick wall of evolution, but the defects did it to the extreme.
Testing them on mice made them better sure but they soon became more aggressive and when they were terminated they were as large as house cats, it was there he drew the line and go back to the drawing board, already he corrected some of the mistakes of the defects and was making progress, where those defective genes would go would be in vast wilderness where it will use a gas emitter to disperse the defective genes in an gas that will quickly make it harmless, so long as nothing nearby breaths it in then nothing could go wrong right? Oh if only he knew in the end.
The pods flew aimlessly through the night sky as it streaked over the horizon unbeknownst to anyone that were out for the night or sleeping, not knowing the future dangers that these three pods could cause indirectly to these masses.
That night just so happened to be when a certain Ben Tennyson and Kevin Levin were staying out late and causing trouble. Ben and Kevin had strolled into a gas station quick stop. “Can I help you boys find something?” The clerk asked.
Ben’s stomach growled as Kevin exited the store at a brisk pace. “Wait for me!” Been called as he ran after. The two boys walked a bit before reaching the Tennyson home. “Catch!” Kevin tossed a soda and honeybun into Ben’s hands.
“Wait...did you swipe these? Smooth!” Ben declared as Kevin grinned smugly. “Just use that soda to burp on your lame cousin for me alright?”
Ben grinned mischievously as he nodded in understanding, “You got it Kevin, where are you staying at anyways?” He asked him with a tilt of his head.
The boy waved off his concerns as he nonchalantly responded, “I gotten myself a nifty tent and all the good stuff that comes with it to rest for the night, as long as I got a good food source, I’ll be fine, besides any animal comes by I’ll just zap them.” He said with a smirk on his face.
“Sounds like a plan, just be careful okay?” Ben advised as he walked to his door and opened it slightly so as to not disturb his parents when they’re sleeping in a bit early.
“You worry too much what's the worst that could happen?” Kevin asked rhetorically with a shrug as he began to walk away from Ben and to the direction of where Ben presumed his sleeping spot would be.
He went inside and closed the door behind him as he took off his shoes and went up the stairs to his room.
Due to a certain scientist’s miscalculation, two of the canisters landed outside of Ben and Gwen’s windows, which were open due to the sticky summer heat this night.
The canisters were the length of a can of potato chips, but slightly thicker. On cue, they began emitting a colorless, odorless gas.. that of course flowed into the two preteen’s windows as they slept.
Due to the size of the containers, they hadn't made much noise upon impacting the ground. This meant no one was any the wiser of what was going to transpire.
They unknowingly breathed in the gas as the genetic modification went into their bloodstream and modified their genetic patterns, making them remarkably stronger, faster and more efficient than any other human being, maybe a bit too well, their effects will be known soon enough.
The canisters depleted their contents as quickly as they came, before shutting off and closing the ports where the gas came from its work done.
Though the visible effects if there was any, it was highly unnoticeable to any other person save for its secondary effects, which they will find out the next morning.
Ben’s parents had gone on a business trip so Max was housesitting for them...as well as watching Ben and Gwen. Thankfully he had his own things to attend to so he whipped up breakfast for the two cousins. Gwen and Ben were now sitting at the table with each other.
“You stayed out really late again didn't you?” Gwen asked her cuz disapprovingly. Ben was clearly sleepy...and grumpy to boot. Though for some reason he was more irritated at Gwen’s question than even that could explain.
“It's none of your business! Kevins cool!” Ben practically shouted.
Gwen glared, she too was feeling more irritable at Ben’s childishness. “I knew you were hanging out with that guy again!”
Ben gripped his fork and skewered some sausage...not noticing his fork stabbing through the plate. When he stuffed the meat into his mouth and bit down, he heard a crunch and spat out the top of his fork which he'd somehow bitten off.
“What the heck? These forks suck!” Ben said with disdain as he dropped the bitten fork on the table, Gwen narrowed her eyes slightly at the fact that her cousin just bit clean through a fork with no sign of flinching.
“You could at least treat the silverware correctly.” She said to him with a slightly haughty tone as Ben glared at her for implying he knows nothing of how to handle his forks and junk.
“Says you, I bet your fork is as cheap as mine.” He retorted as Gwen scoffed and replied, “These are metal forks you dingus, they don't break that easily.” She said to him.
“Prove it then.” Ben stated as he folded his arms impatiently waiting for her to try and prove him wrong.
“Fine!” She decided as she picked up the fork she was using and placed her thumb on the front end and pressed down, much to her surprise instead of encountering resistance it simply bent back from her putting force into it like clay.
The two cousins were interrupted when they heard a loud splintering of wood and a voice outside the front door mumbled “Oops..”
Ben and Gwen stood up from the table...and as they scooted their chairs back they both tumbled on to the floor from the back legs snapping off. Looking up from the floor they saw Kevin letting himself in….while holding the now completely ripped off knob in one hand..and a weird canister in the other.
“Yo Ben, Ben’s cousin. This weird tube thing landed outside my tent and I get sprayed by some gas..now I'm super strong!” Kevin declared proudly as he gestured to the damaged front door.
“Whoa, really!?” Ben said wide eyed as he looked back at the table.
“Only one way to find out how tough we really are...let's go to the woods.” Kevin said with a smirk.
Gwen frowned, “So what are you gonna do, beat each other up?”
“More like...whack each other with trees.” Kev said.
Gwen facepalmed as she followed them outside.
