A little test wouldn’t hurt.
In all honesty, Jaune was in the clear. If the remote was a prank and nothing happened, no one would be upset. If it worked as intended, Blake should have no idea anything happened. The only problem would arise if the remote worked yet everyone noticed. In that case, Jaune could find himself at the end of a very angry girl whose combat prowess far exceeded his own. His life would be forfeit in that situation.
I could always deny I knew anything about it, Jaune thought. He wasn’t a bad person, but temptation is a very powerful tool. Plus, with a reset button, there would be no lasting damage. The entertainment value, however, was endless. He aimed the remote and hit the button for body part swap then made his selection.
The remote flashed green for a moment and then he felt additional weight on his hair.
“It worked…” Jaune couldn’t believe it as he ran a hand through his hair. The test had been simply switching his hair with hers. Now Jaune, who normally had short scraggly blonde hair, now had thick luscious black hair that reached down to his lower black. When he glanced over at Blake, he had to suppress a snort. Completely unfazed by the swap, Blake was still reading a book.
The difference was she now had Jaune’s hair and the black bow hiding her ears looked ridiculous.
Holy shit! Jaune couldn’t believe the power this remote had. Reality changed based on the press of a button. He smiled. “Think of all the fun I could have with this.” He snickered. “First, let’s mess with Blake a little bit.” A harmless prank couldn’t hurt. He clicked the Personal Info button and selected names. There was another green flash of light and Jaune took a deep breath as he marched over to her.
This was the risky part.
“Hi, Jaune,” he greeted. Blake looked up and Jaune’s breath caught in his chest. This was the moment of truth. Their names had been switched and he had to see if Blake noticed it or not. Jaune’s brain was already panicking about what to do if she thought he was crazy.
“Hi, Blake,” she replied after a moment and Jaune had to catch himself from sighing in relief. She turned a page in her book as he struggled to think of a reason to talk to her.
“I’m heading back to the dorm,” Jaune explained. “Do you know if Ruby is there?”
“I believe so,” Blake answered. “Weiss wanted her to get her grades up. Part of being a team leader or something.” Her expression said she didn’t believe that was the real reason.
“Ah, okay. Thanks, Jaune.” He made sure to repeat the name for fun. Blake hummed in response. “Oh, one other thing.” He flipped his hair back. “Have you notice anything unusual today?” Blake raised an eyebrow.
“Unusual?”
“Yeah. Not sure what it is, but something seems off.” He brushed his black hair off his shoulder.
“Seems like a normal day for me,” Blake replied, her bow twitched slightly and she tilted her head. “Don’t worry about losing to Cardin. Keep training and you can teach him a lesson one day.”
“Thanks.” Jaune was surprised she actually encouraged him. Blake nodded and glued her eyes back to her book, indicating the conversation was over. As Jaune left, he clicked the reset button of the remote and everything went back to normal. His head felt considerably lighter.
Now he needed to decide what to do.
