Chapter #4

Willy the Kid

"Wait...Willy?"

Evan couldn't believe it. The fur standing (or rather, sitting) in front of him was Willy (or rather, William) McDuffy, his best friend from middle school. The two met in sixth grade when they were assigned seats next to each other in Mr. Murphy's mathematics class and they were joined at the hip since. They always played together, joined the same sports teams, took the same classes, they even had the same crushes. But at the end of eight grade, Willy found out that he and his family we're moving around the country that summer. The internet wasn't a thing, and neither was social media, so their friendship quickly dissolved.

"See! I knew you'd remember!" said William, bouncing up and down in excitement. The motorized wheelchair groaned under him.

"Wow, sorry for not recognizing you at first," apologized Evan.

"Well, I look a bit different since middle school," he replied. Quite different, in fact. Both him and Evan were teased by the other boys for being so skinny, easy two of the skinniest furs in the school.

"Yeah, I'll say. So, what happened after your family moved?"

"Things weren't too bad after we moved. I went to high school and met this girl there. Trish was her name. She was my high school sweetheart. We were actually together all four years. I even proposed to her on our graduation day! But shortly after that, she (for a lack of a better term) broke my heart. The next thing I know I'm face deep in a half gallon of ice cream. Depression hit me hard. I ate my feelings, and back then I had a lot of feelings to eat. But then something amazing happened one day: I entered a hot dog eating contest shortly after my 19th birthday! It sounds silly, I know. I actually only entered it because of the free food. The next thing I know, I smashed the competition! Soon enough, I had an agent and I was on the road from competition to competition! And here I now!"

"Huh, I didn't know eating competitions could be so lucrative," said Evan.

"The prize money can be good. But I also got signed for endorsements, advertisements, and hey, I've even got my own clothing line!" He gestured to the massive shirt covering up his torso. "And don't tell anyone else this but I just inked a deal for a reality television show: So You Think You Can Eat? Keep it a secret! Nobody is supposed to know yet!"

"Wow, it really looks like you-" One of the rhinos interrupted Evan to whisper something to William.

"Ah! Georgio is telling me that we need to head out if I don't want to be late for the autograph signing. Hey, why don't you come by to my place this evening for dinner? It'll be great to catch up with you!"

You have the following choice:

1. That evening...
