As the next heir to the pride lands, Nala received guidance from her father Mufasa on what it meant to rule, keep the balance and protect the circle of life, but as the female cub she was she also enjoyed spending time with her mother Sarabi, as she learned to hunt and to enact the role lionesses have in the pride along with how regardless of who ended up being the king consort, she would remain the natural ruler of Pride Rock.
Unbeknownst to Nala she was bethroted to Simba, Sarafina's son and Nala's best friend since they were cubs. It was a friendship that Nala's mother Sarabi approved although Mufasa seemed to have some reservations about because Simba was a bit of a rebel, too mischievous and playful for his own good that seemed to brag too much about "being friends with the future queen". In the end though Nala's father didn't intervene, trusting in his daughter's prudent attitude and watching with pride how despite Simba's bravado she could easily pin him down and force him to accept her ways.
One day, Simba approached Nala telling her about a really cool new place he had found about. This intrigued Nala who was pretty sure she already knew virtually the entirety of the pride lands thanks to the trips she used to make with her father, but not wanting to disappoint her friend and a bit curious about what he supposedly found she agreed to go with him. Sarabi had no issues with letting her go but Mufasa, careful as ever, decided to sent Zazu, the majordomo hornbill of the Pride Lands to make sure they didn't get into trouble.
Along the way Nala kept trying to get the information out of Simba about where they were supposed to be going, however Simba was not telling a word, not even when Nala decided to pin him and kept him pinned for 2 whole minutes until he confessed. This only served to increase her curiosity, Simba usually ended up submitting to her but he seemed determined to keep quiet about it. With a sigh Nala released him and they kept walking towards the intended destination.
Nala kept quiet until she finally figured out with a gasp where Simba was taking her, this was the land her father told her to avoid! Behind the pair of cubs, Zazu also noticed this and went back to alert Mufasa about it, hoping Nala was smart enough to heed her father's advice.
