"Why not?" Alex replied.
"Great, just set your hands down there, and I'll show you the ropes." Rosie said.
Alex hesitated and looked at Rosie with a puzzled expression.
"Wait, if you're teaching me how to do it, shouldn't I be doing your nails?"
"Usually, that would be the case. But..." Rosie grabbed Alex's hand and examined his nails. "Our clients won't be inclined to let you do their's if yours are all ragged and dirty like this."
"Makes sense, I guess." Alex placed his hands onto the table, watching Rosie as she got to work.
"First things first," Rosie lifted Alex's hands and placed them into a basin, fingers first. "This is to soften the cuticles. Though if this was a client, you'd be removing their old polish first."
Alex watched on in curiosity as Rosie showed him the ins and outs of a manicure, not something Alex ever thought he'd be interested in, but there's a lot of technique involved. It of course helped that Rosie was only a few years older than Alex and was very pretty. Rosie pulled his hands out of the basin and placed them onto the table again.
"Now, I'm going to push your cuticles back." Rosie said as she broke out a small tool and started using it on each of Alex's fingernails to push the cuticles back. "And now, it's time for the file and buff."
Rosie then took a file to the nails and began shaping them. Alex's nails weren't very long, so there wasn't much shaping apart from rounding them off at the fingertip.
"And finally..." Rosie picked up a bottle of polish.
"I'm not really sure about that." Alex started to pull his hands away.
"Nonsense, it's clear, and it's for protection. Otherwise I have to do this every day. Plus, how else will you learn? Come on." Rosie said.
Alex placed his hands back onto the table.
"There we go." Rosie uncapped the bottle and started polishing each nail.
When she was finished, she put Alex's hands under the dryer.
"Think you can handle that?" Rosie asked.
"I guess, doesn't seem all that hard." Alex said.
"That's the spirit!" Rosie exclaimed as she turned off the dryer.
Alex pulled his hands out and examined them. A little cleaner, but not obviously manicured in any way.
"Fun time's over, you two," Emilia joked as she walked up to the nail station. "We're about ready to open. Oh, and Alex, you nails look lovely. Rosie, another great job."
"That's what you pay me for!" Rosie giggled.
Alex got up from the chair and returned to his broom. Later that day...
