About a week passed since Gwen sent her audition tape in and she had just about forgotten all about her submission. Then one day, she came home to find a letter addressed to her from a TV station. She took it up to her room and read it in her bed. Gwen grabbed a soda and assumed the worst when she opened it up. She skimmed the letter expecting the usual "thanks for applying but we decided to go with someone else" but to her astonishment, she made the cut!
Gwen did a spit take and coughed up the soda trickling down her esophagus. "I made it? I MADE IT? UrrAAaap!" She reread the letter to make sure that this wasn't some sort of sick joke but it was the real deal. Right down to the watermark of Chris's smug face. The letter fell from her hands and she fell back onto her bed processing this news.
Never did it occur to her that she would actually make it onto the show. All she wanted to do was gross McLean out. This had to be some kind of mistake. Gwen didn't believe she was TV material. She didn't even give it her all in the audition. She just acted like a disgusting, repulsive, hyperbole of a slob.
That's when it hit her. That was McLean's plan. To show her off like a sideshow attraction on his show and disgust/intrigue the audience. She felt like a fool for getting all worked up. Gwen grabbed the letter and was going to call the station's number to tell them she was backing out but stopped before she could hit the call button.
This was her chance to make a statement. To show the world what plus-sized people could do. If she won this contest, Gwen could serve as inspiration to thousands of girls just like her. Not to mention, the prize money was a nice bonus.
Gwen grabbed a bag of chips from her mini fridge and called the studio. Over the next two weeks, she made the arrangements, packed up her suitcases, and said her goodbyes before setting off to become a TV star. The bus ride wasn't very good and she ate all the snacks she brought faster than she intended. She spent most of the ride listening to music and cutting the cheese whenever someone scrunched their face when they saw her gut.
Finally, she arrived at dock where she boarded a dilapidated boat that looked as if one good bump would be enough to capsize it. It was a good thing the motor was so loud or else the captain would have heard her nervous farts. As the island grew closer, so too did her anxiety. In a few minutes, the whole world was about to meet her and she had to make a good first impression. Taking a deep breath, she grabbed her luggage and stepped off the boat. Trying her best to ignore the creaking boards.
Right off the bat, she was not impressed with the nearby campgrounds. It looked like the set of one of her favorite cheesy horror movies. Offering guests a case of tetanus instead of a mint on a pillow.
"You mean we're staying here?" Gwen asked.
"No, YOU'RE staying here. My crib is an Airstream with AC thataway."
"I did not sign up for this!" Gwen wasn't sure what to expect from a show called "Total Drama Island" but she expected better living accommodations than this.
"Actually, you did," Chris pointed out while pulling out a stack of paperwork. "But don't sweat it. I'm sure the fresh air and exercise will do you some good. First time for everything, you know what I mean?"
Gwen was just about ready to take that contract and shove it up where the sun don't shine but then she had a better idea. "Maybe I will enjoy that fresh air while it lasts." On that note, the goth grabbed her luggage and joined the other contestants, a nerdy girl in green and pink and big, bearded guy. But not before silently passing gas in front of Chris and listening to him gag on it while introducing the next contestant. Gwen watched as a party dude in a cowboy hat jumped onto the pier and thought to herself that whatever Chris had planned, she was going to be ready for it.
