Chapter #7

In Which a Tiny Chase Ensues

    by: Silverhammer Author IconMail Icon
After pleading for the presumably shrunken Bernadetta to show herself, Byleth waited a moment, scanning the floor, bed, and desk for any possible sign of movement from the tiny archer. When everything in the room remained perfectly still, Byleth sighed.

"Alright, Bernadetta, if you won't come to me, I'll come to you," she said, taking a look at the bottle. "If this is one of the Yellow Deer's prank potions that they tricked Bernadetta into drinking and it turns out to be a laxative or something, I'm going to feel extremely stupid. Oh well. Bottoms up."

With that, Byleth sat down on the bed (unknowingly knocking Bernadetta over as the bed shifted with her weight) and drank the rest of the potion in one gulp. In short order, Byleth began to rapidly shrink. Once the strange feeling of losing most of her mass subsided, she got up and looked around the now giant room.

"I can't believe that worked," she breathed.

"P-PROFESSOR!" Bernadetta stammered as she emerged from her hiding place. "Wh-why did you do that?!"

"Bernie! Oh thank goodness," Byleth sighed with relief as she approached her student. "What were you thinking?! This is dangerous! Who knows what could have happened to you! Now come on, let's find one of the other students so they can take us to Professor Manuela."

Bernadetta began to hyperventilate as she imagined what would happen.

"Professor Manuela!" Byleth called up to the buxom healer as she smirked at the tiny duo. "Please heal us!"

"Oh, I think not!" Manuela cackled as she picked Byleth up and threw her in her mouth, swallowing her whole. "Now I'LL be the most beautiful professor again!"

Soon, Bernadetta was in a dimly lit room, cowering in fear as the rest of Black Eagle House glared down at her.

"Our beloved professor was eaten because of YOU!" Edelgard accused, her giant hand snapping menacingly as she pointed at Bernadetta.

"How awful!" Dorothea sobbed into Petra's shoulder.

"Disgraceful," Hubert growled, visibly restraining himself from incinerating Bernadetta with his magic right then and there.

"UNMARRIAGEABLE!" Bernadetta's father, who was also there for some reason, bellowed.

"Caspar!" Edelgard demanded. "Fetch me the murdering axe! I have VERMIN to exterminate!"

"NOOOO!" Bernadetta shrieked as she ran from her professor, climbing down the bed towards the floor below.

"Bernadetta!" Byleth cried out, baffled by her student's sudden terror. Seeing no other option, she chased after her.

Bernadetta made her way to the floor. Looking up, she saw that Byleth was pursuing her far too closely for her to be able to hide anywhere. Thinking quickly, she ran for the door. It would be just small enough for her to fit under it and hopefully she could lose Byleth outside.

"Bernie, don't go out there!" Byleth called after her. "It's too dangerous!"

Too lost in her paranoid thoughts to heed her professor's words, Bernadetta slid under the door, with Byleth still in hot pursuit. With some effort, the taller professor managed to squeeze under the door after her. She looked around, finding Bernadetta much farther ahead of her and now running in a blind panic...
