Eric is a boy that has made a lot of effort to advance in his training, wanting to leave diapers as soon as possible thanks to the influence of an older brother he looks up too and how he relishes of being a big boy. He really wants to be a big boy as soon as possible, but the big boy life carries with it some responsibilities that he might struggle with and he might end up feeling disenchanted with the whole thing, compared with the simpler and easier time he had before he might reconsider his mindset
Timmy is a boy that has been doing quite well recently, he's almost ready and has no issues on moving on thinking is a natural part of life, but a major event that greatly shocks him starts messing up with all the progress he has made before and forces him to have to make a lot more effort to keep up with his training. Sometimes this might not even be enough, as the memory of how better life was before this major event creeps in and passively sabotages his attempts.
Billy is a boy that has followed all the rules to a tee and has enough discipline to be on the final stages of his training, however he starts getting frustrated seeing how their peeps haven't advanced as much as he has done. This has motivate him to become a sort of a coach or teacher to all the other boys who are in earlier stages, trying to keep track of their times, persuade them to follow the training and even argue with those who feel is not worth it.
Paul is a tall boy for his age and apparently his good genetic lottery also translated to a quicker control that allowed him to be on the final stages of the training, somewhat effortlessly. However, he does feel he's losing his friends who aren't advancing as quick as him and battles between the praise he receives from the grown ups for being a big boy and reconnecting with the friends he doesn't really want to leave behind, even if he has to regress on his training
