Brendon wakes up just a few minutes after Jake leaves to make breakfast. Part of it is the commotion from when Jake came in to make sure he was still asleep, but Mr. Anderson's yelling and screaming had something to do with it. You see, when Mr. Anderson fell out of the newspaper Jake was carrying, he landed right in front of Brendon's face, so that seemed like the logical point for Mr. Anderson to start trying to figure out what was going on.
Unfortunately, he didn't know Brendon. After a few minutes of hollering, Brendon lazily opened up his eyes, but then shot upright in bed as he realized there was a tiny man standing in front of him. Ignoring Mr. Anderson's shouts, Brendon merely grabbed Mr. Anderson in his fist and walked down to the kitchen.
When Brendon saw Jake, he also saw the gun sitting on the kitchen table. "Hey Jake, what's with the gun?" Brendon asked.
"I don't know man," said Jake. "I think it might have been doing some weird stuff around the neighborhood, but I'm not sure what. I found it next to Mr. Anderson's newspaper, so it's on the table if you want to read it."
Jake apparently has no idea what the gun does. That gives Brendon an advantage. He looks at Mr. Anderson in his hand, while Jake still has his back turned.
