Let's make Alex 4 years old in this scenario. This age difference should provide enough of a contrast between Samuel and Alex's stages of life, making it easier for Samuel to feel jealous of the attention and privileges that a younger sibling, who is still quite young, receives. It also gives room for Samuel's character to experience various challenges and growth throughout the story.
