As the saying goes, there are monsters and then there are monsters. Some 'monsters', such as elves and unicorns, don't look at humans as meals, but they certainly don't see them as equals. And elves will go berserk on your ass if you even mention the word "half-elf." Not only does biology teach that sex between elves and humans will NOT produce an offspring, no elf will ever admit to having sex with a human.

At least not publicly.

Some monsters are actually easier to approach about learning magic. Dragons, for example, can be bribed to teach magic and other arcane subjects. Sometimes a dragon might be willing to teach a subject on a whim. But dragons can be touchier than elves on any number of subjects. For example, wearing a Hawaiian shirt around a green dragon is nearly always a fatal wardrobe choice.

And there is always Rene, the head cheerleader who is a succubus. But approaching Rene represents its own set of problems.
