David looked down at the autograph in his book. "To David, Always be ready to make your mark. - Lucy Wong"
A nice gesture, but an empty platitude. David shrugged off the dismissal. Lucy was a millionaire and an icon. Of course she wouldn't bother with a lowly little nobody like him.
"Thank you," he said all the same. He offered Lucy her pen back.
"Oh no, you keep it. Consider it a gift."
David looked confused at the gesture. This wasn't an ordinary plastic ballpoint pen. This was a quality writing instrument; thirty dollars at least. It looked to be part of a set. It was even inscribed.
He tried to refuse, but when he looked up again, Lucy was gone.
David looked down at the inscription on the pen. "Cooper, Kauffman, and Associates" the writing said. David had never heard of such an organization. But if Lucy knew them, they must be worth investigating.
David opened his book once again to admire the writing. "To D," it read. "Always be ready to make your mark. - Lucy Wong"
David tucked a lock of his strawberry blonde hair behind his ear, and set out to find the mysterious company.
