"Mind if I try some of that candy?" Sandy asked, pointing a finger at the sack by the door.
"Help yourself, not really a candy fan anyway," Allyson yawned, fully knowing the irony of that statement. She hadn't actually mentioned to her new employers that she didn't really eat much candy, fearing it might make them overlook her the job. "I think I'm going to grab something to eat and head to bed."
Sandy was already opening the sack. She reached in and pulled out a handful of wrapped candy bars, sweets and lollipops, then returned to the couch. Allyson went to the kitchen and made herself some Ramen Noodles. Out of the two of them, Sandy usually ate the most unhealthily, but the svelte Goth never seemed to put on any weight, and in fact was a little lighter than Allyson at the moment.
"So, how were your co-workers?" Sandy asked, unwrapping a chocolate bar.
"Yeah, not bad," Allyson said, returning to the couch with her noodles. "One of them seems super enthusiastic and the other doesn't seem enthusiastic at all. They balance each other out."
Sandy's face suddenly lit up as she bit into the chocolate. "Wow! This is seriously good!"
"I guess that explains why people were clamouring for them," Allyson laughed. "I don't think I've ever seen you look so happy."
Sandy took another bite, smiling to herself as she continued to munch on the delicious chocolate. "Ughh...so good...maybe I'll stop by that store myself."
"Well, get there early, the crowd today was ridiculous," Allyson said.
Sandy didn't seem to hear that, as she was busy unwrapping another chocolate bar and popping the first chunk into her mouth. Allyson decided to leave her to it. She stripped out of her work uniform, got into her pyjamas, and quickly fell asleep after climbing into bed.

The next morning, after a comfortable night's sleep, Allyson changed into her uniform and headed out. Sandy didn't greet her this morning, which was odd, as this was her early shift at work. Allyson grabbed her packed lunch, a light salad, and headed out the door. As she left, she noticed that the sack of candy was still open, and it looked like it had gone down considerably since last night. Had she looked back at the couch, she would have seen a sea of empty wrappers littered across the cushions.
Soon enough, she had arrived at the store for her second day of work, which she hoped wouldn't be quite as hectic as the first. Tara entered just behind her, smiling cheerfully. "Hey, you came back," Tara laughed. "After yesterday, I wasn't sure any of us would."
Allyson chuckled. "I was so tired yesterday, I fell asleep pretty much as soon as I got home."
"Ugh, same," Tara said.
Unusually, Carla seemed to have beaten them both in. While she had looked completely nonplussed yesterday, today, she seemed a lot more bright and cheerful. As she approached, she reached into her pocket and produced a handful of gummy bears, which she then popped into her mouth. "Morning guys," she said. "You tried any of this candy yet? That stuff is goooood."
"Didn't really feel like it last night," Tara said.
"Yeah, same," Allyson replied. "My room mate liked it though."
"It's so good," Carla said, her cheeks bulging as she chewed the gummies. "You guys should try some."
Just as Carla was about to reach into her pocket again, Sarah appeared from behind her, beaming enthusiastically. "Good morning girls, ready to go to work?"
"Definitely!" Carla said, swallowing her mouthful of gummies.
"That's the spirit!" Sarah said, clearly pleased by the girl's change in tone.
Allyson and Tara exchanged a confused look at Carla's sudden change of tone, but nodded in agreement. Under Sarah's guidance, they all took their places in the store front. Carla actually looked pretty happy on the doors, while Tara looked a little more hesitant behind the till. Allyson, for her part, was pretty relieved to just be re-stocking today. It had seemed like the most chilled of all the jobs. Just go back to the store room and replace what was selling out.
The doors soon opened, and Carla welcomed each customer to the store. Her change in attitude was really quite noticeable. Maybe she had just been having a bad day yesterday? There wasn't quite as many customers as yesterday, but still plenty to keep them busy. The candy really was selling extremely well.
Soon enough, the candy bars were starting to run low, and Allyson went into the back to find some more...
