Claire moved on to the next table, where there were a series of test tubes on a rack containing some sort of green liquid; Claire couldn't figure out what it was, and there didn't seem to be any labels on any of the equipment. She pulled out her phone and snapped a few pictures of the room, then a close up of the test tubes. She hadn't exactly found anything interesting yet, but thought it best to take a few photos, just in case, and she wasn't entirely sure she would be able to come back the same way she had come in.
Pocketing her phone into her black hoodie, she took a closer look at the tubes, before noticing one of the desk drawers under the table was slightly ajar. Jackpot. Pulling open the drawer, Claire was confronted with a clipboard containing some hand written notes and a results chart. She laid the notes out across the desk and started reading. The first set of notes read:
Day 1 - New Chocolate Testing
Results so far have been unpredictable. While we have been able to replicate the same taste as previous chocolate products and, indeed, improved upon it, we have struggled to contain the expansive effect of the new recipe. We do not recommend going to human testing at this stage.
Claire froze as she read the words "we do not recommend human testing". She scanned the page again, hoping she had misread, but her eyes had not deceived her. The chocolate appeared, from these notes, to be unsafe for human consumption. The chocolate she had, stupidly, just eaten. But surely it was only chocolate? What could they possibly be putting into it that would make it dangerous?
Before she went any further, she took her camera out again and photographed the notes and chart. She wanted to make sure she had record of everything after what she had just read. God, I could really go for some more of that chocolate...
Claire had to stop herself from turning back, but the intrusive thoughts about that chocolate kept coming back to her. She could still taste it on her tongue, which darted between her teeth looking for leftover fragments. But it wasn't safe! She had literally just read that. It would have been stupid to try some more. Claire resolved to check the rest of the room and then move on.
She moved to the next work station, her head now filled with paranoid thoughts about what was going to happen to her after eating that chocolate. That rich...delicious...chocolate...
Claire suddenly turned and darted back to the table. She needed more. She had to have more.
Unable to control herself, she grabbed a handful of the chocolate pieces on the table and started munching down on them, grabbing one after the other and devouring whatever she could get her hands on...
