Riley gripped a bit of the flab that sprouted from her stomach. She grimaced while she took a hold of the fat. Not caring much for this part of her. Her new found girth always made her a little miffed. While not having what one would call a washboard, she did have some form of leanness to herself. But after she'd gotten this job, about five years or so back, she blew up.
Though,in comparison to a few other women, she was a stick. And many were around her weight as well before they became rotund, she saw them. Which may have had something to do with this factory. She didn't know what she expected when she got this job. All she knew was that she wasn't supposed to ask questions about what laid deeper in the facility. "The pay was good, so don't go snooping around' which was what Riley expected the supervisors of the place would say to her.
Don't ask why the halls smelled of blueberry or cherry or pumpkin, to an absurd degree. Don't ask why there were so many curvy women, or large, or tall. Nor why so much chocolate was everywhere, which admittedly could be because it was a candy factory, but it wasn't an explanation for the chocolate on the floor. Don't ask why so many moans echoed throughout the facility; don't worry it isn't haunted.
Riley took it all in stride. She also didn't ask why her boss smelled so strongly of cola, but she didn't mind because it gave her a chance to tidy herself up. Quickly fixing herself up to look presentable. Soon enough her supervisor came in, upon her she smelt of cola winds. Katie was a deeply brown woman, yet she had the features of a Caucasian woman. She could've been tanned, though even then the almost caramel look to her was strangely deep.
Her hair was cut short, not a bob-cut though, more utilitarian. She also wore a strangely rubbery looking suit, like a latex version of a Power Rangers assemble. The woman scanned the room and focused on Riley. She stepped forth towards her, each one precise and even.
Riley didn't know why, but her supervisor always seemed apprehensive everywhere she went. Never going too fast, but never going slow nor did she seem diminutive while she walked. From the few times Riley did see her stumble, she swore the woman swelled. Like a balloon or something, but it could've been her imagination. It did not however explain the fizzing sound that she heard while she was with Katie.
"Hello, Ms.Alton" Riley spoke. The woman gave a curt nod to her employee.
"Riley, good afternoon." Katie replied. "Are you still on your lunch?
"Yes, ma'am"
"Good, I got a few things I wanted to discuss with you."
Riley fixed herself up while her boss came forward. She peered intently at Katie, hoping she wasn't going to be fired. Thankfully, she didn't give any inclination of such action. Instead putting her fingers together, staring at Riley.
"Do you know of that room in the East Wing?" Katie looked at Riley, who shook her head in response. "You can find it on the map, Room 380-383? One of those rooms. Anyways, the upper echelons say that you folks can take a few of the overstocked supplies."
"Really?"
"Yep, they have an entire shelve, maybe two, that is up and ready to go. Just sign off at one of the clipboards and take your leave. I told Mari, Shannon, Stewart, Blake, and Candence this, so I don't know what's left." Katie spoke, listing all of the figures on her fingers. A small burp escaped her lips before she continued.
"Urm, sorry, I think I got a little gas. Anyways, If you're interested, there is also another thing happening. Tomorrow anyways. A factory tour, and I believe your first one."
"Yeah, I thought they were more frequent?"
"Ehh, this year is slow, due to...well, you know. But anyways, we're getting about five, maybe seven, ladies tomorrow. So the boss was wondering if there was somebody who could help?"
"Guide?" Riley replied, Katie smiled at that.
"No, help clean up."
At that response, Riley's enthusiasm quickly diminished.
"But that's my off day, Ms. Alton."
"I know, but Lewis is on vacation, Noelle is pregnant, and Lisa is on sick leave. I could ask Shannon or Mari but I came to you first. The upper crust is going to pay over-time for this. So just think about it."
Riley smiled at the thought of extra cash. She could find time in her schedule, though tomorrow would be a little hectic for her.
"My final thing I want to say is that they need a lab assistant for R&D No in the 'you're going to be using chemicals' lab assistant. We're not offering that position for cleaners, sorry. It just to help with the factory's 'increasing' instability." Katie spoke, an indication of how chaotic the last month or so had been.
"When is it?"
"Next weekend, just meet them over in the North Wing and ask for Shelly. I'll give her a recommendation if you choose to do so."
Riley grinned at her supervisor's words, her mind wandered over her new options opened up to her.
