In the shadow of greats

Walking down the dirt paved road was young Sawyer. They were a rookie trainer doing what all young trainers do. Exploring the world and battling pokemon! But because of the pressure and competition brought upon by legendary trainers such Moon the first Alola league champion, Leon one of the greatest Galar champions, and the parton saint of trainers everywhere; Red. These myths made flesh, made many a trainer crumbled, for their grand legacies are too great to overcome. Thus making many trainers adopt a much fiercer attitude and borderline obsession to win. These attitudes have led to droves of ambitious youths solely focusing on catching "strong" pokemon such as Lucario and Gyarados in mass. Even by illegal means such as stealing and even drugging to strengthen them. Decades of these attitudes have cause a multiple drastic effect and changes on certain habits and the behaviours of pokemon such as many Riolus and such who evolve based on happiness and friendship not developing properly because rampant lack of these traits. Many of which like some members of the ralts, togepi and happiny families has seen many...adaptions because of this different social climate.

But Sawyer is utterly blind to these dark troubling times, clinging on to an innocent desire to befriend pokemon and became the very best in the world. On their side is a plucky bidoof named Huckster and sassy rattatta named Finks as their only pokemon. Sawyer is determined to make their dream a reality.
