Chapter #3

Wrong Stop

    by: Navar4477 Author IconMail Icon
It was a Friday evening, and you were on your way home from work. Some Smalls retail store in the busier part of town, Smallmart, that paid pretty well despite how easy the work was. But MAN, it was mind-numbing.

It had been a long shift, nearly 12 hours, and your eyes were half closed on the monorail ride back to your apartment. Nearly an hour commute, but money was money and your needed the work.

You'd been riding for nearly an hour, falling asleep every few minutes as the monorail wound it's way through the city. Rain pelted the train in massive droplets, shaking the carriage, but that was par for the course. Once in a while the train would slip inside a Bigs building, and there would be peace for a minute.

You heard your stop get called, and you stood up in a daze, shuffling out the doors before they shut behind you. You were in a Smalls station, looking out on a Bigs sidewalk, rain pelting the ground. You blinked once, squinting. Wait...

You spun back to get on the train, but you were too late. The damn thing had already sped off, leaving you in an empty station in the middle of a Bigs section of the city. Fine then, you'll just have to wait for the next train.

The nearest board showing the schedule was lit up, and you scanned for the stop you were at, looking at the times.

That was the last train for the day at this stop.

"Shit." You muttered, looking back out at the pouring rain. There goes a good night's rest before the weekend. At least you didn't have work tomorrow, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was the rain.

As if on cue, lightning flashed and thunder shook the station, rattling the overhead lights and lighting up the street. You couldn't stay here, not in this weather. You'd head stories of Smalls getting swept into a drain and never being heard from again. That was NOT going to be you.

You peered out onto the sidewalk, looking for an answer to your problem. There wasn't much, but there were a few people on the street, but who to try and get help from.
