No family of his own

John was in his studio apartment working on his secret project by himself like had been the past few months, he finally finished his shrinking device. He thought about where to use the device first, he could use it here in his apartment but that could be dangerous if something went wrong as there would be noone to help him. Then he thought about taking it to his parents house and using it there as he could have plenty of things to test there and might even be able to get one of their help, intentional or otherwise. He could also go out to the local park or the high school there would be plenty of test subjects there.
