Brodie Paws was unusual fellow. That's because they weren't quite human, they were a Fae. Like their brethren they had left the mortal realm over three hundred years ago but the Faelands could get boring. So they used a hidden passage to return to the mortal real, carrying their prized possession, a soul stone.
The portal between realms were guarded though and soon Brodie found themselves being hunted. They was expected to return immediately and would likely receive a harsh punishment, probably a thousand mortal lifetimes as a statue in the queen's garden, if they didn't return willingly. If they did return willingly, it'd probably still be a hundred mortal lifetimes.
Fortunately for Brodie, a human caught them first. They had the audacity to think that they were a leprechaun. Brodie exploited this though an revealed their soul stone saying if they both touched it it would reveal the pot of gold. Now Brodie was human and the human they changed places with was off to the Faelands to be turned into a statue. They'd probably figure out that it wasn't Brodie when they are made into flesh again.
Now in a human body Brodie could have all the fun they wanted. Humans liked making money and Brodie could sell something no one else could so they decided to open a store where humans could pay to swap with each other. Brodie didn't care what their motivation was, so long as they got paid.
