Sam and Stinky Choose Their Adventure

    by: Clide Author IconMail Icon
Stinky nodded to herself. Oh yeah, she thought, that will be fun. I definitely gotta get Sam to read this with me. With her decision made, Stinky made her way straight to Sam's house.

8:04 AM

Stinky arrived at Sam's house, book in hand, and planted herself right at the front door. She then took her free hand and used it to knock on the door to get Sam to answer. The person who greeted her at the door, however, was Sam's mother, and as the door opened, Stinky lowered her hand and took a small step back. "Oh, hey there, Mrs. Rosio!" Stinky said. Sam's mom smiled back and replied, "Ohh, Stinky! What a nice surprise - are you looking for Sam?" Stinky nodded and said, "Yup! I wanted to show him this book I got from the library." Sam's mother smile grew as she told her, "Well, I hope you two enjoy it. He's up in his room, make yourself at home!"

"Thanks!" Stinky said as she made her way through the door, past Sam's mom. Stinky had been to Sam's house enough times to know the place like the back of her hand, so she had no trouble making a bee-line towards his bedroom. She also had no trouble opening his door without knocking - she and him had been friends for as long as they could remember, so she felt close enough to him to just waltz into his room without a second thought. As she swung the door open, she exclaimed, "Goooooood morning, Sam!" Sam was sitting on a swivel chair at his desk on the other end of the room, and jumped slightly from his seat before he turned his head over his shoulder to face where Stinky was standing. Sam sighed as he replied, "Hey, Stinky." Sam was a bit less energetic than Stinky was, most of the time, so his response was somewhat downplayed. The tone of his voice made it clear that he's become used to Stinky just coming over unannounced, though he didn't entirely mind either.

Sam was wearing one of his favorite shirts - a long-sleeved purple shirt, but with the sleeves and collar colored white instead - alongside gray denim jeans. He had blue eyes and blonde hair, like Stinky did, though his eyes were a shade darker than hers, and his hair was short, with pointed tips in the front. Because he was a year older than her, he was also slightly taller, by about 3-4 inches.

"Guess what I found at the library?" Stinky asked, anxious to show Sam the book. Sam turned in his swivel chair so that his whole body was now facing her and replied, "Lemme guess; it's this cool sci-fi book about aliens and robots, right?" Stinky took a few steps closer to him as she said, "Nope!" then held the book in front of Sam with both of her hands. Sam blinked twice before he took a look at the title, and then couldn't help but chuckle. "Farting Fantasy, huh?" he said in an expecting tone. "Why am I not surprised you wanted to show me something that had to do with farts?" Stinky lowered the book and responded, "Well, that's only part of it - it's a choose-your-own-adventure book. You get to make choices and see where the story goes! I thought maybe you'd like to read it with me, and we could try it out together." Sam paused for a moment, as if to think about Stinky's question, before he answered, "You don't wanna just read it yourself?"

"I mean, I could," Stinky answered back, "but I think this will be more fun. Who knows - maybe I could add the fart sounds myself!" Sam just laughed and replied, "Yeah, and have you stink up my room? That's what the Hideout is for, Stinky." Stinky's eyes lit up. "Oh yeah!" she said loudly, "we should totally go to the Hideout!" Sam looked surprised for a second, before his expression quickly changed to a wry smile. "Ehhh, it's kinda early," he said before ending with, "but, sure. That could be fun. Let's head over there!" Stinky pumped her fist with a short, sharp toot that followed right after.

BRRRTTT!

Sam got up from sitting in his chair and said, "Hey, save it for when we get outta here." Stinky just giggled and said back, "Alright, alright, you got it boss." Sam walked out of his room, and Stinky followed after him. Sam proceeded over to the living room, where his mother and father were watching the morning news, and told them, "Hey Mom, Dad, Stinky and I are gonna go hang out over at the Hideout - we'll be back soon!" Both Sam's mom and dad then waved at him, with his mother saying, "You going to read that book there?" Sam nodded and replied, "Yeah, otherwise Stinky's gonna funk up my room." Stinky just looked at Sam with a knowing smile. She didn't mind that Sam would poke fun at her for farting as much as she did, since she knew he only did it to try and make her laugh, and not to be mean to her or hurt her feelings. Sam's mother said, "Well, alright Sam - thank you for telling us. Hope you two have fun!" Sam and Stinky then made their way towards the Hideout, after Sam put on his shoes and followed Stinky out his front door.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------

8:35 AM

The two made it to the Hideout, which was just what they called a treehouse that was built out in the middle of some woods located nearby their town - so nearby, in fact, that it was a half-hour walk away. The treehouse had been there long before Sam and Stinky were even born, but left abandoned for reasons unknown. Both their dads decided to renovate it for the kids to use, and has since been used as a nice, out-of-the-way hang out spot for the two. It was a win-win for everybody, since Stinky could fart as much as she wanted without having her parents telling her to stop, and both her and Sam's houses would be left un-stunk.

Sam went towards the wooden ladder and made his way up. When he reached the top, he used his right hand to lift open the hatch door above him, then pulled himself up. He held the hatch open as Stinky made her way up the ladder, since she was still holding the book with one of her hands, so she made her way up slower than Sam did. When she made it to the hatch door, she placed the book on the floor of the treehouse, looked up at Sam and said, "Thanks, Sam." Sam smiled and said back, "No problem." Stinky pulled herself up, then Sam closed the hatch door.

The treehouse was a small box, with only enough room to fit five sleeping bags, of which there were two on the floor, one for each kid. Each of the four walls had one square hole that acted as a window, which helped keep it well-ventilated, which was good for Stinky, since it meant she couldn't hotbox the place with her butt. Placed between the two sleeping bags was an old portable radio that Stinky's dad gave them to use. That way, they could listen to music. Lastly, the walls were decorated with a random spread of posters and drawings to help give it a bit of personality.

Sam and Stinky proceeded to sit down on one of the sleeping bags, and Stinky opened up the book on the first page. Before she started reading, she turned her head to face Sam and asked, "So, you wanna make the choices, or should I?" Sam looked back at her, somewhat confused. "I thought we were gonna take turns," he told her. Stinky raised an eyebrow and said, "Huh, OK... but then, who should go first?" Sam crossed his arms and closed his eyes, titling his head to the side slightly, clearly thinking of a way to decide. His eyes shot open as he realized there was a quarter in his back pocket, so he decided to pull it out and suggest, "Alright, flip a coin - which side you want?" Without having to think about it, Stinky answered, "Tails, as always!" Sam then placed the coin on his thumb, waited a few seconds, then flicked his thumb to send the coin spinning into the air. He caught it with one hand, then placed it on the back of his other hand. The coin showed--
