Chapter #7

Eric's a Paladin

by: BIG BAD WOLF Feeling Thankful Author IconMail Icon
"I'm the Paladin," said Eric. "Oath of the Ancients. My Order tends to have good ties with druid groups and the like, for the most part."

"I see," you said. "Explains why Tree Mother allowed you among the group."

"It's a bit more than that," said Eric. "I'm her grandson."

You blinked at this. "Really?"

"My mother didn't like all the rules, and was more than a little rebellious," said Eric. "She still revered Nature of course. She met up with my father while they were traveling. One thing led to another. Grandmother was a little surprised to say the least."

"Sounds like it," you said. "Um, just what does the group consist of?"

"Simic Hybrid Barbarian, Uthar," said Eric. "Good at Climbing, and he's got some crab-like claws for extra grabbing. Peepers - Grung thief - don't touch that frog without gloves unless you have to. Bin - changeling bard - never wears the same face twice in a row. Zlithis - artificer Yuan-Ti - not only are they able to touch Peepers safely, they got their own poisonous concoctions. Damu the Tortle wizard - that shell of theirs is almost as good as armor. Enka, minotaur, is an Eldritch Knight - use swords, magic, and horns. Spyro is a satyr sorcerer - loves to drink. Ninos is a centaur ranger - don't ride on him unless he allows it. Cetos is a Triton Monk - good at swimming, and just as good at punching. Then there's Blade - he's a Warforged Warlock - somehow that being of enchanted metal got the attention of a Celestial that gave him decent healing powers. Finally, there's the kenku Whistler - that crowman doesn't talk much, but he's a Blood Hunter, with a touch of wereraven from what I've seen - not one to piss off."

"Sounds like a strange bunch to travel with, especially for a paladin," you said.

"First thing to learn, look past stereotypes," said Eric. "Second thing, never make an enemy of someone when they can be an ally."

"And Third?" you asked.

"When Peepers asks if he can touch your blade, allow him to do so," said Eric. "Folks fear poison weapons more than magic ones for some reason."

"And if I don't want my blades to be poisoned?" you asked.

"Zlithis can safely remove it," said Eric. "As for skills, everyone has everyone covered. Still short on a Cleric and a Druid."

"I see," you said.

"Sooner we find Swift Grass, sooner we can remedy that gap though," said Eric.

"Do you know were she is?" you asked.

Eric chuckled. "In a sense."
