At the graduation ceremony, you are top of the class when the battlemages are acknowledged.
This isn't as great an accomplishment as you might think, as you are the only warrior, male or female, who is an acknowledged battlemage for your year.
Not that there weren't a lot of students wanting to be battlemages when you first entered the Heroes' Academy. There were plenty. But one by one, they changed training to other subclasses of warriors, other classes of heroes, or just left the Academy entirely.
Being a battlemage isn't easy. It takes great mental balance and acuity. It's why battlemages train with the mace, as it's a weapon that requires less nuances than other weapons. A battlemage focuses strictly on offensive and defensive spells, eschewing other forms of magic. It's why a battlemage wears leather instead of chain or plate, to reduce fatigue and allow easier movement of their limbs. But even with all these steps, very few ever graduate the Academy as a battlemage. There are even some years that see no battlemages at all in their graduating class.
But even though you are an acknowledged battlemage, you realize you are a novice who needs more training. So you are going to seek out a mentor to give you further training. To get to where your future mentor is, you are going to travel
