As the saying goes, an assassin by any other name would be just as deadly.
A Shadowfoot is trained to get anywhere he wants, without anyone ever being able to detect his approach or departure. He is the master of the small blade, whether wielded or thrown. He is a master of alchemy, capable of making poisons that kill his target either with subtlety or grotesque display. A target that the Shadowfoot strikes may die instantly, or expire a fortnight hence, with no one ever knowing that a Shadowfoot has struck.
As can be imagined, since a Shadowfoot is trained by the Heroes' Academy, and since the Heroes' Academy is funded by the Royal Treasury, all Shadowfoots (Shadowfeet?) are expected to be loyal servants of the King, acting only as the King or HIs Ministers direct.
As can also be imagined, there are others besides the King who would find it useful to have a Shadowfoot in their employ, and they would make it very profitable for the Shadowfoot who went to work for them.
Of course, the Shadowfoot who leaves Royal employment is declared an Enemy of the King. But other than that one checkmark in the minus column, working in the private sector can be very lucrative for a Shadowfoot.
