A scribe passes you a folded note from the Duke.

When one of the scribes hands you a note with the ducal seal on it, you're fairly certain what's on the note. After all, you chose your glamour spell and outfit specifically to get the Duke's attention. So you know what the Duke is going to write. It's just how crudely he's going to make his message.

So you're absolutely floored when the note doesn't contain a proposition, but rather a coded message.
