Child Timeline

The Child Timeline contains the events of Twilight Princess, and Four Swords Adventure.

Prior to the events of Twilight Princess, in ancient times, a group of Hylians called the Dark Interlopers attempted to take control of Hyrule and use the Triforce for their own purposes using their dark powers. In response to this, the three Golden Goddesses - Din, Goddess of Power; Nayru, Goddess of Wisdom; and Farore, Goddess of Courage - called upon four light spirits from each province of Hyrule and sealed their power away in the Fused Shadow. Then the Dark Interlopers were banished into the Twilight Realm through the Mirror of Twilight where they adapted to the Twilight and became the race known as the Twili.

Many centuries later, after the events of Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf's intentions to dominate Hyrule and claim the Triforce were exposed, so he was captured, tried, and executed by the Six Sages. When the Six Sages used their sword to mortally wound Ganondorf, the Triforce of Power was activated, and Ganondorf broke free from his chains and immediately killed the Sage of Water. The Sages, fearful of this power, banished Ganondorf into the Twilight Realm where his spirit aided the power-hungry Zant into giving him the power to turn the Twili into mindless beasts, usurp the throne from the Twilight Princess Midna, and send Hyrule and the World of Light into darkness.

In Twilight Princess, two centuries after Ocarina of Time, Link's home province of Ordona was invaded by monsters and the Twilight Beasts. He ventured into the twilight where he is forcibly transformed into a wolf, catching the attention of Midna in her cursed imp form, wearing a chunk of her Fused Shadow. In this form, Wolf Link meets Princess Zelda who tasks him and Midna to retrieve the Fused Shadows and restore light to Hyrule with the aid of the light spirits. After collecting the Fused Shadow, Zant forces Midna into the World of Light, mortally wounding her until she is healed by Zelda at the cost of her own spirit.

Link and Midna venture to the Sacred Grove where Link pulls the Master Sword from its resting place in the ruins of the Temple of Time. He then journeys around Hyrule to retrieve the Mirror of Twilight to reopen the gateway into the Twilight Realm where they vanquish Zant, who reveals Ganondorf has returned to Hyrule. With the power of the Fused Shadow, Link and Midna journey into Hyrule Castle and defeat Ganondorf's spirit, who possessed Zelda's body and transformed into a beast. In a final battle against the King of Evil, Link plunges the Master Sword into Ganondorf's heart and kills him, breaking the curse over Midna, revealing her true, beautiful form. Midna departs from the World of Light and the Mirror of Twilight shatters.

In Four Swords Adventure, Princess Zelda calls upon her six Maidens and attempts to enforce the seal on the sword, but the shadowy form of Link kidnaps Zelda and the Maidens, and provokes Link to pull the Four Sword from its pedestal. In doing so, Link not only is split into four separate Links, but he breaks the Sorcerer of Winds, Vaati from his seal, freeing him.

The four Links travel across Hyrule and work together to stop the chaos caused by Shadow Link and Vaati, where they also discover that Vaati has been resurrected and used by the King of Darkness, Ganon. Ganon was once a man named Ganondorf who stole the legendary Trident which gave him the power of darkness, as well as the ability to spawn Shadow Links as resentment from being defeated by Link in Twilight Princess. After rescuing the six Maidens, the four Links confront Vaati in the Palace of Winds where Ganon reveals himself as the true mastermind behind the chaos.

With the combined efforts of the four Links, Princess Zelda, and the six Maidens, Ganon is sealed inside the Four Sword and laid to rest again. The four Links merge back into the singular Link, who is hailed by Hyrule as a hero.
