How about a fantasy world where humans, anthro's, mythological creature and monsters live together? The moon would orbit the planet and every solar eclipse about 2 to 5 times a year both curses had a chance of randomly manifesting in a portion of the population. Anyone can catch them with no warning. The Prey strain tend to have the ability or at least the potential to be able to do magic or have a special ability compared to normal members of their species but are a magnet for predator that can be drawn to them. They have much bigger mana reserves so they can use their powers more, easier, or have a stronger version than normal.
The Predator strain on the other hand tend to be physically stronger or bigger than their mundane counterparts but for the most part lack or struggle with magic or special abilities. Normal food isn't enough for them but eating mundane other creatures will feed and some little basic changes. That being said when someone under a predator strain eats a prey strain not only are they more delicious and filling they have a chance to gain a small fraction or ability based on the prey own. For example if the Prey strain had fire powers the Predator might get a slight boost to heat resistance or a minor version of it. It starts off very weak but the more you eat that same Prey strain the stronger the ability becomes. The more willing the Prey the bigger and higher chances of getting better abilities ranging from from a very little boost at worst to a massive boost from more willing victims. Most of the time their special abilities are not as good as the original and tend to be attracted to Prey strain people making them highly prized.
Both versions can be a blessing and a curse. Prey can attract Predators and Predators tend to be stronger they usually lack other abilities plus a deep hunger for prey.
