The noise of the lift doors opening startled Ted and Lindsey and the sound of high-heeled shoes heading in their direction only served to scare them even further.
“Those shoes do not sound like those worn by a cleaner,” said Ted, “and whoever that person may be is now heading right towards this office”.
“What do we do?” worried Lindsey. Ted could see her frantically trying to think of a way to get the two of them out of this potentially embarrassing situation.
“Why did I agree to do this?” said Ted as he looked down at his body dressed entirely in his assistant’s clothing.
As the clicking of heels drew closer and closer to Ted’s office, he caught a glimpse of the person’s face. He had never met this person before, but he recognised her as Rebecca Flynn, the company’s new CEO. As Ted started to panic inwardly, Lindsey switched the lights off inside the office.
“How is switching the lights off going to help our predicament?” asked Ted, now fearing for the short-lived end of his time as an executive.
“Hold on Ted, I might have an idea to get us out of this awkward situation,” said Lindsey.
“What is it?”
“We hide somewhere in this office. She looks in, sees there is nobody in here and leaves us alone”.
“We can’t hide”, said Ted, “What if she finds us?”
“Well that might just be a risk we are forced to take” replied Lindsey, “Either that or simply wait for her to walk in and see us dressed like this.”
Knowing the former option at least gave them a chance of a way out of this situation, Ted asked Lindsey “Where did you have in mind for a hiding place?”
“I was thinking behind your desk”, said Lindsey. Ted looked over to his desk. The front of the desk contained a central panel that went all the way to the floor. If Ted and Lindsey could hide in the nook either side of Ted’s office chair, they would not immediately be spotted by Mrs Flynn when she walked in. If they got lucky and Mrs Flynn chose not to investigate Ted’s desk, then they would hopefully be fine.
“Okay” said Ted determinedly, “but if we get out of this unscathed, we need to swap our clothes immediately. Make it look like this whole thing never happened, okay?”
“Okay”, Lindsey agreed.
With the new company CEO now closing in on his office fast, Ted and Lindsey hid inside the nook in Ted’s office desk. Just as they were getting settled, they heard the door to Ted’s office open and close and the click of the light switch as Jessica Flynn entered the office.
