"Right there is fine sir, thank you!" Sarah said as the moving team set down the last of her boxes. "Thank you for not having as much stuff as the rest of your family, I think one of our guys threw his back out trying to carry some of your brother's stuff" one of the movers replied. "Sounds just like Joey, he buys so much crap but he has no place to put it".
Sarah liked to keep her room very minimalist-based, as in less was more to her. She used to keep a lot of books in her room, but she donated a lot of them before she went off to college, hoping to make room for some of her newer, more in-depth college books. Sadly, most of her reading was done online, so she didn't really have a plethora of anything anymore. In light of her minimalism, she opted in to take the smallest room in the house, although it was still just as big if not larger than the room at her old house. Heck, it even had its own bathroom!
She then took the initiative and started to put the boxes where she believed most of her things would go. She didn't really have any furniture from the old house other than her bed frame and mattress, so she had all the creative liberty she wanted as far as object placement. Sarah made quick work of this, and then set her sights on her bathroom.
It was a pretty nice bathroom, not too glamorous but had enough room for her to decorate nicely if she wanted to. The shower didn't have a tub which kinda bummed Sarah out, but she was sure that if she could use the spa in her parent's bathroom if she wanted to. There was a large mirror that took up a large portion of the wall, which was perfect if she wanted to take cute photos of herself for later reference. Sarah then noticed that you could pull the bottom right side of the middle section of the mirror, and it opened up into a medicine cabinet.
"Sweet, I can store most of my stuff in here!" she said happily, observing the empty shelves. At least, they should've been empty. She didn't notice it at first, but there was a small slip of paper stuck in between one of the shelves and the wall. She inched it up with her fingers and looked to see if there was anything on it.
"Remember, it's the button behind the toilet!"
- Dr. R
"What the? Button behind the toilet? Dr. R? Huh?" Sarah pondered as she looked over at the toilet. She glanced at the note again before heading over to the toilet. Upon her first inspection, she couldn't see anything at all, no suspicious buttons or anything. But when she flashed her phone's flashlight, she noticed that a part of the wall behind the bottom of the toilet was slightly discolored from the rest, a darker shade of gray. Sarah ran her fingers over it and applied a bit of pressure, when the discolored part of the wall became indented and she heard a few clicks.
"Oh my god! There's a secret entrance! Maybe it's like one of those secret rooms people had speakeasies in! No, maybe the underground railroad!" she said to herself, trying to keep her voice quiet so her family wouldn't hear her. Just then, the clicking noises increased and became a bit louder, while the wall behind started to open up on one side like a large doorway. " I can't believe it," Sarah said, shaking now. Her curiosity was more prevalent than her fear, however, as she could not stop herself from walking over to see what was behind the wall.
Inside, she saw a medium-sized room, with a single lightbulb hanging from the ceiling. The light illuminated a large object, which was covered in cream-colored sheets. There was also a smaller table-looking object near the larger one, just to the side of it.
"This is definitely not a speakeasy or the Underground Railroad" she said, voice echoing in the nearly empty room. "What is this?"
She walked over to the larger object and peeled the sheet away.
It was a large plexiglass cylinder with an odd metal platform inside of it, and some sort of tablet embedded into the inside of it. Outside of the cylinder, there was some sort of sci-fi-looking computer, with two large buttons on the top. As she got closer, she could see that one was red, which said Off, and the other was green, but said On. As she inspected the cylinder, she could see that it had door handles on it, meaning that one was able to step inside. Near the handle, she could see a notice.
NOTICE: MAXIMUM CAPACITY OF 2 SUBJECTS
"2 subjects? Is this a science project?" she said, continuing her search.
Her attention then turned to the smaller object that was still covered. She pulled that sheet off and revealed it to be a tray, like what surgeons usually place their instruments on, and a small book. It didn't have too many pages, and sort of looked like a typed-up instruction manual.
Sarah picked up the book and inspected the cover, which said:
"Modi-Chamber Owner's Manual by Dr. Rubenstock
PLEASE READ BEFORE USE.
FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN DEATH OR OTHER UNCERTAINTIES"
"This must be left behind by whoever left that note, Dr. R" Sarah said to herself as he flipped through the pages quickly.
What does she do?
