You figured that if you went north, away from the blast, the radiation would die down. But, your theory is wrong. The radiation from New York traveled down to the northern parts of Pennsylvania. No matter where you go, there is more radiation. You then head west to the western area of Pennsylvania. Hoping to find Pittsburgh. Possibly its still OK.
