Chapter #6

A cry for help.

by: Scifiwizard Retired Author IconMail Icon
One underground tunnel opened up to a garage attached to a house I owned at the edge of town. The garage door opened just as I reached the surface and I pulled out like any other person taking in an evening drive. The streets were unsurprisingly quiet but I hit a switch making the stingray invisible anyway just to be on the safe side. Oracle sat comfortably on the dashboard, looking out the windshield. She let out a squeak of warning just as a small child ran out into the street.

"Help! Please help!" Running, she screamed.

I threw my foot onto the break, stopping the Stingray in a heartbeat. Oracle jumped into a special pouch under my uniform top as I leaped out. The girl gasped as I seemed to have appeared from nowhere.

"What is wrong?" Serious, I demanded.

"They are after my bother!" Crying, the girl explained.

I turned to find a number of Sykes hired goons backing a small boy into the corner of an alley only, before I could act, another squeak of warning came and I spotted more hired thugs approaching the girl and I. From their expressions, they obviously had no idea who I was.

"This girl is coming with us." Firmly, one man said. "Don't be a hero, old lady."

"Old lady...?" Frowning, I asked.

Then, I sensed something coming in fast just as the man who spoke was hit with a large metal ball connected to a heavy chain. He was thrown off his feet, landing a good ten yards away. The other three men paused as a young teenage girl appeared upon the scene wearing a black full body leotard, black shoes and a doll like mask.

"I am Rose." Flatly she said. "This is Thorn."

She motioned to her ball and chain weapon just as it glowed with a dull flash before becoming a young teenage boy standing beside her. He too was wearing a full body black leotard with black shoes only he worse a Japanese themed demon mask.

"You will withdraw or get your arse kicked here." Darkly, he said.

He then transformed into a long staff characteristic of fantasy tales which gracefully landed in Rose's hands. I in turn retrieved my battle staffs and the fight began. i was surprised Rose had skills similar to my own at such a young age and Thorn's ability was certainly interesting. Within seconds, we made short work of the goons who forgot their hostages and ran for their vehicles just as police sirens were heard quickly approaching.

Thorn transformed back into his human state and turned to the kids, they had fainted. Frowning, he turned to his watch. "We have only minutes before mother and father wake up." Frowning, he said. "Ideas?"

I expertly hid a grin as Rose winced, biting her lip. "Kindred spirits..."

"I think I can help you." Smiling, I said.
