I am Luna Nightshade. I was there when all of this started on June third, eighteen hundred and fifty three. Waterfront City was just a village at the time; about two to three dozen residents in all. It was the perfect spot for settlers who just wanted to be left alone. The Appalachian mountains to the west and south, a two hundred foot drop into the Atlantic ocean to the east and protected swamp land to the north.
We were all awakened by a bright light and a boom that shook the entire valley. We all scrambled to the cliff to find nothing. If that was not disturbing enough, it began to rain metal debris in all shapes and sizes. It was a miracle only ten people had lost their lives; I was among them, at least for a time. I woke up with a start in the morgue along with all the others who had lost their lives...
Today, I am among the last four surviving 'immortals'. Each of us had our powers of which we used to protect the secrets of Waterfront City. My power was magic, real magic, focused through Tarot cards. Among other things, I had the ability to predict future events. I use the word predict because I am not always as accurate as I would like to be. I had learned through painful experience to make my predictions cryptic and allow those I warn to figure it out on their own. hence, I had become known to many freedom fighter groups through the years as Madam Vague...
Looking up from my diary, I sighed seeing my Tarot cards glowing. Something had gone wrong somewhere. I took up the cards and shuffled them with one hand before throwing them into the air. The cards arranged themselves, my magic guiding them and I read the fortune my magic was trying to alert me too.
"Someone young is about to fall into the past." Frowning, I said. "This is not good."
I could not tell if this child would fall into the lap of Eli or Ina, two of the other immortals so I made it a priority to call them both.
