You take a step forward, past all three of the currently uninhabited bodies, and turn towards them, trying to make it look like you're appraising them. You do take a moment, also, to look at their expressions, glass-eyed and slack-jawed as they are. You take a step back, and look over at Vivienne, who only smiles coyly back at you.
"Having a hard time deciding?" she says, her voice almost seeming to mock you.
"...Not really," you reply, and jump at her.
When you came up with this plan, you had fully expected it to fail. You'd thought that there was no way she wouldn't have put up some kind of barrier or defense mechanism, and that your spirit itself would be fried if you attempted it. So the biggest surprise of all comes when you find yourself suddenly reconnected to physical sensation, and you jump. You look down at the black robe that clings tightly to your new form, and subtly feel the light material against it. You start to move your new hands, but they freeze in place.
Well, well, aren't you clever? you hear Vivienne's voice in your mind. Didn't really take you for the type to want a witch's body, but who am I to argue? It works out just fine for me.
You try to respond vocally, to ask her what that means, but it seems she can hear your thoughts, or at least guess them.
I'm sure you're as surprised as could be, but I was hoping for this. It's as good an excuse as any for me to get out of this forest and explore the world for a bit, right?
Before you can protest, you feel something exiting your inadvertently-stolen body, though unlike when you were pulled from your own, this one feels almost like standing outside in the mist. Only a couple of seconds pass before you see Vivienne's spirit take form in front of you. She turns to Danielle and Kyle, who have just been watching open-mouthed.
"Well, seems like Tim's made his choice," she says. "But I guess for the next couple of days it's more like her choice, hm? Well, either way, it looks like I'm part of this game now, too. Although, since I don't have a last name, I guess I pick last. Danielle, that means you're up next."
Danielle takes a step forward, reanimating her own body, just like you expected. Kyle, similarly, chooses his own body. Vivienne turns back around to give you one last playful smile before stepping backwards into your previous form.
"Oh, my," she says. Her tone of voice sounds completely wrong coming out of your mouth. "I gotta say, I've transformed myself in a lot of ways, but I've never actually been male before. It's quite...stimulating. Oh, I'm really glad Tim brought me into this game now. This is going to be fun."
"Wait, but, I mean..." Danielle stutters.
"I don't, this--" says Kyle.
You hold out your hand, trying to will Vivienne to stop, but she just laughs at you.
"Oh dear, Tim, you don't know how to use magic, do you? Don't worry, honey, you still can, it'll just take quite a bit of practice. But, since none of us can right now, I guess that puts our game on hold, huh? Well, then, I guess you'll just summon us back as soon as you're able, right? Buh-bye!"
"H-hey!" you call, but Vivienne has already left.
Danielle exchanged a serious look with both you and Kyle. "I'll follow her, make sure she doesn't do anything...weird. Kyle, you and Tim work out a plan, then tell me what it is. Catch you later!" She runs off after Vivienne.
Kyle looks at you, and shrugs. "I dunno what her plans were if we all picked our own bodies, but look, me and Danielle will get her back here as soon as we can. I think we can convince her to come back in two days even if we can't force her physically. You just work on the spell to put you back to normal. How's that sound?"
"Simple," you answer honestly. "But then again, trying to be smart landed me in a witch's body with no magic, and judging on how she was talking, whatever spell was binding her to the forest is working on me now, so simple might be better."
"Alright. See you in two days, tops," says Kyle, and runs off after the girls, leaving you alone in Vivienne's cabin.
