Chapter #4

Princess Ashkay

by: Johnny Foxx Author IconMail Icon
The feline former princess stood at the bow of the ship as it sailed through the misty waters, staring out into the distance for any sign of land. She was dressed in a leather tunic and boots, clothes more suited to a commoner than a princess of Anthronia. But, at least officially, she was no longer a princess, banished from the royal palace and the country, by her own sister purely out of spite.

Her mind began to drift back to as far as she could remember, to their early childhood. It seemed like from the moment they had emerged from their mother's womb, Ashkay and Tara had been constantly at odds with each other, over seemingly everything imaginable. Posessions, attention, their parent's care, you name it. It finally came to a head when they had been brought before Prince Westley, a handsome and charming young man, so he may select one of them as his future queen.

The both of them had tried pretty much every trick in the book, just short of assassinating the other to gain the prince's favor. But ultimately, he chose Tara. Ashley might have been willing to let the whole ordeal go and move on, if it wasn't for her sister making her first act as queen to banish Ashkay from her home the instant the crown was placed on her head.

Tara had intended to have her sister sold as a slave in Romanica, purely to add insult to injury, but Westley convinced her to that banishment was enough. Using what gold she could scrounge before leaving the palace, Ashkay hired a ship to take her across the sea to the East. Along the way, she'd been plotting her revenge on her sister and to regain her throne.

After weeks at sea, the ship finally found land, an island that had once been the home of a long forgotten civilization. Only by studying a rather obscure tome on the subject did Ashkay discover the island's whereabouts, and more importantly, the lost treasure of it's former inhabitants. With a small group of the ship's crew members, they made their way to the very center of the island, where an ancient abandoned city lay, vines and various plant life overtaking the once bustling streets and homes.

There, in the center of the city square, sat what she had been searching for. A magnificent golden fountain, it's waters still flowing after all these centuries. Not wasting any time, Ashkay cupped her hands and brought some of the water to her lips. Before she even swallowed, the men gasped as she began to transform. Her black fur turned white as snow, and her hair became luscious locks of gold as her eyes turned crystal blue.

Standing in front of the sailors was the most beautiful woman they'd ever laid eyes on, where seconds before stood a rather plain former princess. "Don't just stand there and gawk." Ashkay said "Get me back to Anthronia, on the double! Once my plan is complete, I'll shall generously reward your whole crew."

Back on the ship, Ashkay began to imagine the look on her sister's face when she seduced Westley from her, and he made her his queen in place of Tara. After that, she wasn't sure yet. She could banish her sister as she had done, sell her into slavery, or even have her executed. She relished the thought, and had plenty of time to make up her mind before reaching home.
