I arrive at the beach before Ollie and Jess, but I know where to go. We always hang out in a secluded area between the cliffs. It is kind of a long walk, but worth it not to have to deal with the crowded portions of the beach. I make my way along the shoreline to avoid the many towels set up. It is the perfect day, so it is even more busy than usual. I pass the rock outcrop where a group of kids is looking at the sea animals in the pools of water.
About five minutes later, I make it to our spot, which is luckily free of any other people. As I reach into my bag, I feel something wet. I realize it is the shrinking elixir, which I brought to show my friends. Cursing, I try to replace the lid, but only make matters worse, spilling the solution all over myself and my bag. My skin begins to get tingly. In an impulse, I reach for the antidote, hoping to stop what I know is coming next. Unfortunately, I drop it into the sand.
Instantly, I begin to shrink rapidly. It is a bizarre sensation, watching the ground get closer and closer. After only a couple of seconds, it is all over. At my size, I can no longer see the ocean. Instead, I am surrounded by hills of sand. In the distance, the antidote lies half-buried in the sand. I don't know where my bag went. I think I may have gotten more of the elixir on it, so the bag could have shrunk smaller than me. Judging by the size of my footprints, I am now about the size of a bug.
I hear voices booming and look back to see my friends. Even from far away, they look huge. Ollie is shirtless and wearing his bright electric blue swim trunks. Jess is in her red and white polka dot bikini, which shows off her slender figure. I watch, still a little bit in shock as they get closer. Jess's massive foot descends not too far from me. She and Ollie look like gods from my perspective. "I wonder where Alex is," asks Jess, her voice sounding amplified. "I thought he said he was going to get her first."
Ollie shrugs, "Maybe he got held up." They set their stuff down not too far from me. Ollie takes a swig of soda and burps.
"That was weak," teased Jess. "I can do better than that." She chugs the remainder of her bottle of soda. With a hand on her stomach, Jess leans towards Ollie and lets out a huge burp right in his face.
"Wow, real classy," he says sarcastically. "I can smell the Chinese food you had for lunch."
"You know you love it," Jess replies mischievously before burping again. "The last one in is a rotten egg." The two race towards the ocean, shoving each other and laughing. I feel a little jealous being left out, especially with how comfortable the two were together. I have long harbored a crush on Jess. More recently, I have suspected that she and Ollie have a thing for each other.
However, now is not the time to worry about my best friend stealing my crush. I have a bigger (or smaller in this case) problem to deal with. After thinking it through, I decide I head over to their stuff. If I can get Ollie or Jess's attention, they can probably help me. It is hard to walk through the sand at my size, but I eventually make it.
I marvel at the size of their stuff. The empty soda bottles look like grain silos. Their flip-flops could easily crush a house from my perspective. I definitely need to get somewhere safer. After considering the matter, I decide that one of their phones would be the best option. That way, I will not get stepped on and have a greater chance to get noticed. However, before I can do anything, my giant friends come my way. Still in shock, I just stand there and stare. I am jolted from my daze as...
