Your name is Matthew Wiliams, and you're an official liaison from the United Nations to alien resistance leaders arriving on Earth.
Which is both more and less impressive than it sounds.
The United Nations has been greatly revamped from what it was like prior to the first Harvester invasion. The Security Council, for example, is made up primarily of the nations that significantly contribute to the Earth Defense Force, with presidency of the council shifting between the United States and the People's Republic of China every six months. Nations maintain their sovereignty, but there is more focus now on actually resolving problems, rather than playing international "gotcha" politics. State sponsored terrorism has nearly been eliminated. Humanity cannot afford anything distracting it from the existential threat the Harvesters represent.
So being a liaison for the United Nations can be an impressive position. Sometimes.
But the aliens arriving on Earth aren't just military leaders, here to coordinate strategy with Earth's generals. There are alien scientists and engineers arriving to help Earth integrate sphere technology into its defense systems. Then there are alien leaders arriving on Earth who have come here to learn more about the humans who are going to lead them to victory over the Harvesters.
That curiosity goes both ways. So the aliens are sending performers and lecturers to help humans learn more about them.
So your duties vary. Some days you're the aide de camp to a powerful alien space admiral. Other days, you play tour guide to a group of midlevel alien bureaucrats wanting to see the Grand Canyon.
It's a living.
Your most recent assignment is to be the liaison to one of the following groups:
A Tirna performing troupe -- The Tirna are remarkably human in appearance, except for the fact that the average female Tirna is eighteen centimeters in height, while the average male Tirna is twenty centimeters in height. Their troupe is similar to Earth's Circus Soleil.
A group of Sleeta explosive engineers -- The Sleesta are anthropomorphic lizards, and are the same size as humans. Sleeta are recognized as the experts in Sanctuary space when it comes to shaped demolition charges.
Trade delegation -- A mixed group of Sanctuary aliens here to discuss commerce with earth's leaders
A small group of Sankur Philosophers -- Despite their fearsome appearance (the Sankur resemble anthropomorphic dire wolves and are much larger than humans), the Sankur enjoy the reputation of being the philosophers of Sanctuary space. They are visiting Earth to give lectures, visit their human counterparts, and do a little sight seeing.
Enifala Acrobatic Troupe -- The Enifala are remarkably human in appearance, save for their shell-like ears, vertical slit pupils, markings on their neck, and a tuftless, leonine tale that emerges from the base of their back. The troupes performance is similar to Chinese Variety Art
