The Faceless

Once there was a cult who believed that the face was a symbol of someone's individuality. Something that might be considered dangerous as a person out of line could create chaos. All while valuable as they play an important part of themselves. The cult remained hidden until a new leader took it's place and turned the cult public. Gathering new members who were willing or by force. It started off as in the shadows in their recruitment but then they stood out much more.

New members had their faces removed and said face remains alive and stored in a vault. The faces were sentient and where the main consciousness was, some of them scream for help or wanting their bodied back. Some faces were considered "enlightened" where they accept the cult's teachings of how they are dangerous to their own bodies while being valuable. All while gaining special privileges to help some members of the cult blend into society. The face themselves were both a blessing and curse, ying and yang in the cult. They were both worshiped and scorned for their role. Hence why they did not simply destroy the face.

The cult had many rules such as no members being under 18. Have some self control. Maintain peace. Sex must have consent. And etc. There were members who seek to change the rules as the current cult has flaws such as having some mercy over their faces or wanting to promote good will.

Cult members were able to communicate to themselves through hand gestures and some form of telepathy. When needing to go into society, they do borrow the faces in the vault at times to be able to talk when needed but only the enlightened faces who were willing to support the cult.
