Chapter #3

A New Adventure for Old Friends

    by: Drakin Author IconMail Icon
Across the vast, seemingly endless planes of the Digital World, few noteworthy events regularly occurred. Sure sometimes there were fights between the powerful creatures known as digimon, the occasional "stampede" of digital tumbleweeds, or the random data streams moving large chunks of digital information from one place to another. But by and large it was quiet.

Until a blazing light from the sky crashed into the soil with a loud explosion like a falling meteorite.

Out of the billowing dust emerged a interesting but not entirely uncommon sight for the Digital World. The yellow furred vixen stood tall and proud, scanning the landscape with black ringed eyes encircling sapphire irises. She was tall and proud with the build of a warrior, but there was a slight softness to her frame too, especially around the stomach and hips where tiny layer of softness had begun to develop.

Satisfied there didn't seem to be any immediate danger, she brushed dust from her purple arm guards and her fur as best she was able. Almost as an afterthought but still seemingly important, she reached up to touch a purple bandanna around her neck, as if for assurance it was still there.

A noise behind her in the still settling cloud had her turn and state with almost military grated seriousness. "No serious threats spotted."

"Really Renamon, we came here to relax, not pick a fight," the voice from the figure in the cloud replied, "At least try not to take this so seriously."

The vixen sighed but did seem to relax ever so slightly. "The digital world is a dangerous place. I can't believe you wanted to come here."

"Dangerous, but also fun. You never know what sort of adventure awaits."

The figure that emerged from the settling cloud stood tall and cheerful, her fiery red hair dun up in a ponytail like old times. Rika was dressed in a variation of her old clothes, from the blue jeans and studded belt to the blue and white shirt with a heat on the front. Although now the young adult stood taller, exposing a touch of midriff as the top of her head now came to just below Renamon's chin. She also wore a purple jacket and had a small backpack slung over her shoulder with supplies.

"So where to first?" Rika smiled. Renamon scanned the area and spotted a small mesa a short distance away.

"Give me a few minutes to scout out where we are." She took off moving, Rika noticed, a little slower than usual, but still with the impressive speed her years of training had given her.

Rika took the time to sit on a rock and check her smart phone. As expected the call function didn't work in the Digital world, but perhaps unsurprisingly the wi-fi signal was unbelievably strong. Normally it wouldn't have worked, but an adapter attached to the bottom of her phone translated the overpowering signal to something her phone could read. A little gift from the squad at HYPNOS when she'd explained where she'd planned to go for summer vacation. And in turn she'd used it as a excuse when she told her mother, saying the team wanted her to explore and bring back more info on the Digital World. Rika knew her mom would take some convincing to get her to go.

Even though I'm 18 now she still treats me like a little kid, she thought to herself with a sigh.

It wasn't long before Renamon returned fortunately. "We're in luck. It seems we've landed on the edge of a territory I visited in the past. Up north is one of the larger Digimon cities. A lot of crowds and a lot interesting events going on if I recall right. A little ways to the west there's a beach of sorts, but The ocean is made out of raw churning Data which we don't know how it might effect humans, and the Digimon can be a little hostile towards outsiders if you aren't careful.

South is the start of a Digital jungle, but I never went very far inside. They say the digital plants there can grow to enormous sizes. And out East is the strangest. 'It's known as the 'Glitch Zone'. Some unknown force messed up a large patch of the Digital World. No one is sure what it was but even the few similar properties of space, time, matter, and energy break down out there. Very few Digimon have ever explored it and fewer still have ever come back."

"Wow, sounds amazing," Rika mused, trying to decide just where to go.
