CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG the train lurched as it departed King's Cross Station in London. You and your younger sister Kerry had set up in a private compartment. You're wearing comfortable clothes for traveling, some nice gray sweatpants, t-shirt, white nike athletic socks and some nike sneakers.
Your younger sister Kerry is scrolling instagram on her phone as you rummage through a bag of memorabilia from the Harry Potter shop at the station. She's dressed what you imagine to be less comfortable. Strap shoes over red tights, a black crushed velvet thigh-length dress that flared out and a red denim jacket over it.
"I don't know why you're so sullen, it's going to be awesome!" You tell her, "You're basiclly going to Hogwarts for the next seven years."
"It's not Hogwarts, it's an all-girls boarding school in the middle of nowhere."
Kerry and you were both off in a new country (England) on the way to new schools. For you, a 3 year university program. It's going to be great. You're getting what would be a four year degree in the US in only three, AND it's cheaper than US colleges, AND it's a whole new country. Your parents loved the idea so much they decided sending Kerry to school in England would be a good investment for her future too. Kerry is less than thrilled to be leaving all of her friends behind though.
"There's houses, and uniforms and it's basically a castle."
"I don't even like Harry Potter, you're the nerd."
Despite only being 11, Kerry was always trying to act more grown up. She preferred dresses to jeans or leggings, she drank coffee, and she didn't like anything "childish" like fantasy novels or video games. She was just interested in influences and instagram models, inane drivel like the Kardashians that you can't stand.
"If you like the idea so much maybe you should go there instead."
"I wouldn't exactly mind living with a bunch of senior girls, but I think they'd have something to say about it." You chuckle.
The train leaves the city behind and shoots off into the English countryside.
