Back to Old Habits

"I'm just gonna keep you squished so I don't have to look at you anymore."

"Oh come on!" you yelled, jolting to your feet. "You said you were feeling nice!"

Mackenzie shrugged. "It passed."

Before you could move, your archenemy suddenly lunged forward in her seat and grabbed you with the practiced ease of someone who's done this countless times before. You wriggled in her grasp, trying to free yourself with the same kind of desperate futility of someone who's failed to escape this kind of situation countless times before. You really should've known better. After all, compared to you she was the size of a skyscraper. But instinct always kicked in when the threat of a squashing was imminent. Mackenzie brought you to her face and inspected you with a mixture of contempt and contemplation as she tried to think of the most amusing way to squish you.

"Will you knock off that damn wriggling?" she asked, more out of irritation than anything. "It doesn't do anything except make you look even dumber than normal. We both know if I wanna squash ya, I'm gonna squash ya."

"Come on Mackenzie," you wheedled. "Isn't it time we put this rivalry behind us? We could get to know each other instead. Bond as roomies? Maybe we can wash dishes while listening to music? According to movies, that's fun."

"I got my own ideas of fun, runt," Mackenzie said, unmoved.

"Like lurking in the sewers to frighten small children?"

"Hardy-frikkin-har. You're just lucky Olivia knows I'm the last person to see you otherwise we'd have more "fun" than you could handle."

"Yes, my girlfriend is very protective of me," you said smugly causing Mackenzie to shoot you a death glare. You knew antagonizing her this much wasn't smart, but so what? She said she was going to squash you, and it's not like being nice to her would change her mind or make her hate you any less. You'd tried that in the very beginning and look where that got you. Any pity you had for her situation had run out after she left you under that box for two weeks. She was the one who picked this status quo, so if you were gonna be tormented anyway, you may as well get a few digs in before the pain began. Besides, it's like she said, she couldn't get rid of you permanently. Not when Olivia had entrusted her with your well being.

"I swear," Mackenzie said bitterly, "I will never know what someone as perfect as Olivia could ever see in a puny bug like you."

"A soul?" you suggested innocently.

Mackenzie smirked at this. "You saying I don't have one? That's where you're wrong. I got a sole. Two of em in fact!" She turned you around to look at her sock-clad feet still propped up on the table and wriggled her toes. "How'd you like to spend the day under one of em? It might give me incentive to go take a jog around the block and get acquainted with our new stomping grounds."

You groaned, at her puns as much as her proposition, "You're such an ass."

"What's that?" Mackenzie said, acting like she'd misheard you. "Ya wanna be under my ass?" She shifted you again and lifted one black pajama bottom clad butt cheek off the couch. You recoiled in her grip but of course could go nowhere. "Well sure, I guess we could be a couple of couch potatoes instead. It's not like I have anything better to do until Liv gets back."

Mackenzie brought you back up to her face. "What do you say twerp? Wanna go with my feet or ass? I'll let you decide... because I'm feeling nice," she smirked.

"I hate you," you sighed. "So... so much."

Mackenzie chuckled. "Fine then, I'll decide. Let's..."
