The Tekks are an alien species of a plantoid nature, meaning that they gain energy through mainly photosynthesis and reproduce via seeding. However the Tekks are also a hive minded species that are connected through mild psionic connections to the 'mother tree' as they call it, which is the central conduit for all Tekk coordination, although child trees are grown on colonies to help ease the burden of communication.
The Tekk are also carnivorous species, and consume any fauna for nitrogen and extra nutrients. On their home planet of Truski, they have spread out so far that they have eliminated all animal life on their planet, leaving them with an extreme shortage on food for the mother tree. So they're now expanding outwards, sending out semi-independent drones to other worlds who can plant child trees which can start producing their own tekk workers who will then harvest the planet's fauna for meat to send back to feed the mother tree.
Their intense need for meat has made them extremely expansionist, much to the fear of their neighbors and has earned them the reputation of 'the hungry hungry tekks'. However upon first contact, the Tekk have displayed remarkable intelligence when it comes to diplomacy, even negotiating trade treaties with other alien empires to import more meat in return for resources. And not only that, some drones have displayed deviancy and instead of continuing their colonization mission will sometimes leave the Tekk Hivemind to make their own lives.
