The Great Pirate Lane

The Great Pirate Lane is a term used to describe a long network of star systems inhabited only by the criminal scum of the galaxy. They cooperate only in times of mutual emergencies. Otherwise, different sections of the Lane is controlled by various Land Lords of many backgrounds, ranging from mobsters, pirates, insurgent warlords, and many others. The common inhabitants of these stations either serve one of these Lane Lords or are merely residing just outside the reach of the law. Very few children are ever born in the Lane, and the few that are will likely spend their entire lives in the Lane as a lowly criminal like the other residents.
